Soak up the sun, sand and sea, strawberry mojito in hand this weekend at Sand Bar, Siloso Beach. Happening every Friday and Saturday, from 6.30pm to 10pm, the cozy sunsets of Sentosa island will play host to Sand Bar’s BBQ weekend buffet (S$58/person). To sweeten the deal of all-you-can-eat surf and turf, diners will be entitled to their “happy hour” 7th heaven promotion, where their Mojitos and bottled beers will be going for just S$7 nett each.
Seaside BBQa are part and parcel of my student life. Gone are days where we’d slaved in front of the grill with supermarket-bought produce, facing the darkness of East Coast Park. At Sand Bar, the men manning the grills know their stuff. Everything from the Scallops with Sweet Onion & Bacon to the American-Style BBQ Pork Ribs, were done just right and perfect for munching on while watching the sun set against the horizon.
Bonus points for not having to be inhaling all the smoke and having to head home smelling like BBQ pit itself! All the fiery grilling and flipping is happening next to the bar, but you’d be seated a little further out, right on the sandy beach. No judgement for popping off those flip flops and sinking your toes into the soft sand – it’s all about the full sea side experience!
There are also tons of appetisers for diners to savour while waiting on the grill. Good food comes to those who wait, but it doesn’t mean you have to sit around mopping. The salads are packed full of prawns and slipper lobsters, and there is even a platter of thick salmon slices cured in citrus and dill. These are great to start with, but opt for the grilled eggplants and zucchini for pairing for the BBQ!
Surprisingly, my favourite from the night was the American-style BBQ Pork Ribs. The sweet, sticky sauce was as addictive as the tender meat sliding off the bone. The best part about it being a BBQ feast? I have the excuse to go straight in with my hands, which, I am convinced makes the food taste so much better. It was a great combination with the grilled zucchini or, if you want something a little more filling, the Farfalle Pasta with Mushroom and Spinach.
Don’t forget to wash it all down with their S$7 Strawberry Mojito. It comes in a hefty portion, making every cent of that promotion worth it. There are also options for bottles of Hoegaarden and the tequila-flavoured pale lager, Desperados to cool down with at the same price.
The menu switches up now and then depending on what’s fresh – things every diner love to hear! Should you make a trip down and be in awe of all the scallops and tiger prawns, don’t leave the seasonal fish out. Whoever grilled the fish knows what he was doing. The skin was crisp and the meat still juicy. I made many shameless trips back to the grilled demanding them.
The menu may not be huge, but it is more than enough to satisfy. As I have said earlier, the men behind the grill knows their stuff. The sand in my toes, crashing waves and the live band playing covers all night long (the third bottle of desperados might have helped too) all added up to a great weekend by the sea.
To make the best of your Sand Bar experience, make sure to download their Coastes Digital Menu app. Not only do you get to laze in your seat and the bar sends you jars after jars of Mojito, but you also get to collect rewards points by ordering through the app. Every S$1 spent entitles you to 10 points, where 5,000 points can be converted to a S$10 voucher a.k.a. another Mojito!
