Swissôtel The Howard, London serves Wimbledon afternoon tea

June 2010, London –   Swissôtel The Howard in London took advantage of UK’s flurry of Wimbledon fever and created an afternoon tea to celebrate the tennis championships from 1 June to 4 July 2010.

The afternoon tea set is accompanied by a pot of my favourite Twinings tea, or a thirst-quenching jug of Pimms at an additional cost. The Wimbledon Afternoon Tea follows the success of the hotel’s monumental offering of TLSee – Tea-London-Sightseeing. The Wimbledon Afternoon Tea is for anyone looking to sample two of the most quintessential English favourites, tea and tennis.

Flavoured shortbread biscuits shaped as some of Wimbledon’s most iconic images – tennis rackets, tennis balls, centre net and strawberries; all resting on top of an edible green lawn court!  Cute!

This distinct afternoon tea was served in the hotel’s Mauve Lounge.  Traditional finger sandwiches and home-baked scones with ubiquitous strawberry preserve, chocolate mint cups, pink champagne jelly, strawberry cream tarts and macaroons. are included on the tier of treats.

So, what in the world is PIMMs??

Okay, after going online to wikipedia, this is what I found about PIMMs and it sure sounds thirst quenching indeed.

• Pimm’s No. 1 Cup is based on gin and can be served both on ice or in cocktails. It has a dark tea colour with a reddish tint, and tastes subtly of spice and citrus fruit. It is often taken with “English-style” (clear and carbonated) lemonade, as well as various chopped fresh ingredients, particularly apples, oranges, lemons, strawberry, and mint. Pimm’s is also mixed with champagne (or a sparkling white wine), called a “Pimm’s Royal Cup”. It is 25% alcohol by volume.
  • can also be purchased as a pre-mixed fortified lemonade (Pimm’s & Lemonade) in 250 ml cans or 1-litre bottles, at 5.4%.

  

I should have accompanied Cheryl Tay for afternoon tea when we were in London for the AirAsia British MotoGP.  She mentioned about it there.  But nonetheless, fortunately I had my fair share of afternoon tea at Sketch.
