Are you provision-store bought, or supermarket type? Don’t answer or we’ll figure out how old you really are. Before Fairprice plastic bags clogged your kitchen, groceries were bundled in old newspapers and brown paper bags.

Fittingly, the menu in Provisions in 7 Dempsey is brown paper. Its offerings deliciously comforting. Satays and claypots, otaks and orh luaks, pig ears and pork jowls, cempedak and pisang. Almost like being in a kampung neighbour’s kitchen.

Plus, while you wait for the hot-looking chef Justin Foo to further heat up your orders, there are tuckshop treats and old school games to enjoy and entertain. Yes, Provisions is that kind of place. Nostalgia meets hipster in an on-trend retro setting. And the serves are metal plates. A look-back to your Ah Ma’s time.

The cocktails may make Ah Kong flip though. Provisions has an extensive drinks list, and no mix the beertender can’t shake and stir for you.

Nights are young in Provisions 7 Dempsey because opening hours are from 4 pm till very very late. Great for after movie, theatre, event, dinners and suppers. From S$4 to S$28.
