Time to Celebrate at PizzaExpress

Celebrate at Pizza Express

Last month, we celebrated our birthdays at PizzaExpress located in the basement of Scotts Square. They were launching new menu items, and my team and I were invited to take on the invitation to try them out. New menu items, team birthdays which just happened to coincide with the month of April. Yes. Dennis, Jessica, Sylvia and I were all born in April. Different years of course. In all celebratory mood, I bought the team prosecco to accompany the food.

Dough Balls Doppio
Dough Balls Doppio

A visit to PizzaExpress is not complete without loading up on the carbs with their Dough Balls Doppio. This crusted bread goes so well with the pesto Siciliano, garlic butter or pesto Genovese. A serving of 16 pieces is priced at S$11. Too much to handle, then order the S$8 Dough Balls Single portion of eight pieces that comes with only garlic butter. The texture of the bread is like the pan crust pizza dough. Exceptionally addictive.

Pizza Express - Lobster and Crabmeat Ravioli

The lobster and crab meat ravioli (S$26) is another dish we really liked. The ravioli is filled with generous portions of crab meat and ravioli which is complemented by the velvety mushroom and Pomodoro sauce.

Pizza Express - Laksa Pizza
Laksa Pizza

You probably have had many renditions of the local Laksa dish which usually comes in the form of a spicy noodle soup with rice noodles with prawn, fish cakes, cockles, quails eggs, chilli paste and laksa leaves. PizzaExpress localises the dish and transforms it into a pizza with quail egg, prawn, mussels, squid and tau pok.  I was just happy to have quail eggs in my pizza. Dennis thought that the tau pok in the pizza was a pleasant surprise and that the full flavours of a bowl of laksa noodles made this pizza a dish worth coming back for.

PIzza Express - Parma e Rucola

The S$25 Parma e Rucola was refreshing with every bite with toppings of fresh mozzarella, passata, parma ham, garlic oil and dressed arugula.

Our darling Sylvia even brought her own candles with candle holders so that the S$25 Carbonara pizza could simulate a birthday cake. The carbonara pizza came with toppings of smoked bacon, mozzarella, parmesan and garlic oil on creamy bechamel with a soft cooked egg, finished with fresh parsley.

Despite having five of us digging in, think we had too much food that we could handle. Three types of pizza, ravioli, dough balls. We all left with great memories and a food baby.

PizzaExpress is located at B1-08/09 Scotts Square, 6 Scotts Road, Singapore 228209.
