Let’s get Retro at NINETEEN80 along Tanjong Pagar Road, a new arcade bar by A Phat Cat Collective. The cosy bar is located on the same side as Fairfield Methodist Church and just walking distance from the church. The bar is in where Rewind was once located, where patrons used to drink before heading to Play Dance Club.
Enter NINETEEN80 and you will be welcomed by a row of arcade video games on the left and the rather inviting bar counter with bottles displayed waiting to be consumed. Artwork by Mojoko references iconic arcade games. There are also console tables with over hundreds of 80s and 90s games including PacMan, Space Invaders, Double Dragon, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter and Golden Axe.
Step into nostalgia as NINETEEN80 serves classic cocktails that are inspired by the so-called ‘dark ages of drinking’ when cocktails were still rather basic compared to what we get today. Fresh fruit juices are used for remixes of these classics that are served in both cocktail and jugs.
Remember the days of Vodka Ribena and Long Island Tea? You can get the Vodka Ribena original mix of Ribena and soda at S$18 nett or S$70 nett per jug. The Long Island Iced Tea (Ice-T “Hustler” Remix) is served with a subtle cloudy apple twist at S$20 nett and S$70 nett per jug.
The signature cocktail here is the strawberry-based Donna Summer priced at S$20 nett. It is sprinkled with exotic sumac powder. The rum and Malibu-based Club Tropicana is concocted with fresh pineapple, coconut and lime juices and a dose of sour plum powder. The Club Tropicana is priced at S$20 nett. Barcadi Breezers are available at S$16 nett a pop.
NINETEEN80 resident DJs Ollie’Des and YA5TH are early pioneers in Singapore’s Hip Hop circuit. They ensure that you have an audible good time. Veterans Joshua P and Paulsilver also serve as residents with Suren and Krumbs joining them.
The music here is from the 80s, 90s and 00s. That’s my kind of music.
