Presenting a new way to have pancakes – a shot of Knob Creek Smoked Maple Bourbon! Breakfast is too early for bourbon? You are only saying that because you have not tried this sweet, delicious nectar for yourself.
When Booker fathered the small batch movement to bring real bourbon back, he brought back the bold flavours from pre-prohibition days. Today, those flavours just got better as his combines two loves into one; his love for bourbon and his love for everything that taste better with it (which, I suppose, is pretty much everything) into one amber-coloured Smoked Maple glory.
Just imagine. The heavy oak and spicy vanilla notes with a licorice finish combined with the sweetness of maple. Not only does it smooth out the rougher ashes of the original, but also creates an inviting buttered maple aroma followed by a light, subtle trail of smoke. Ultimately, it brings out the distinct Knob Creek profile before leaving us with a long, nectar-like finish of the maple.
Truly sweet and simple. It is a perfect introductory drink. A fellow taster bet me S$50, before I even got near the bottle that I would love it. Well, I am S$50 poorer.
I quite enjoyed this as an after dinner treat; like a dessert. If anything, it might just very well end up in your kitchen as a way to pump up your usual sweet treats. Anything from chocolate truffles to a thick, gooey sauce on cakes, it is going to find a way into your heart.
Diehards might still find the Smoked Maple too sweet, losing out to that nice balance of spice, sweet and smoke found in the mid-palate. It is perhaps more of a treat after all.
Still, with its higher proof and tasting more like maple-flavoured rather than spiked syrup (a.k.a. Jim Beam Maple or Crown Royal Maple), this might just be the best flavoured whiskey to date.
The Knob Creek Smoked Maple Bourbon is available along with Original, Single Barrel and Rye at The Beam Cellar, 229 Mountbatten Road, #01-03-07 and #01-17-19.
