Pretty much like speed-dating, but way more fulfilling. This was the scene at the media food tasting hosted by Japan Food Town, the major food hall in Japan which has opened its first abroad, in Wisma Atria, occupying the entire 4th level of Isetan.
We were banded in 13 groups to get fresh with as many tenants, but only for 15 minutes each stop. When the bell clanged, you upped sticks (chopsticks) and moved on to the next dish.
Dishy. Fresh. And of the toppest(!) quality. I have not eaten better fish – raw, cooked – in Singapore. Thanks to Japan Food Town’s procurement stipulations. All 16 tenants have to get more than 50 percent of its ingredients directly from Japan, fresh, some on a daily supply basis.
In agreement with Japan Association of Overseas Promotion for Food & Restaurants, via Okinawa Prefecture (closest to Singapore). By the way, the Okinawan diet is famed for its properties towards longevity.
For now, the longevity applies to the queue for a seat in any of the 16 casual dining outlets. You will not enjoy a more authentic Japanese experience here, or feast on the most delicious of fish, the finest of sakes, and the unique Matsuzaka beef, Kinme-rice, Kindai maguro.
Delicate. Fresh. Authentic. From simple ramen and fried chicken, to melt in mouth mackerel and rhapsodic tuna, all from Tsukiji market to your plate. From under S$15 and up.
