How can we ever say no to pizza? Top that up with free-flow Prosecco and you’ve got a party to remember. Birthdays, hen parties, or, for team-building, Jamie’s Italian wants to get your next gathering behind the kitchen for a MasterChef-styled pizza bake-off. There is a prize waiting (bragging rights included) and the only challenge is do it all with a glass of Prosecco in your hand.
Gather a fun-loving party of six (up to 20) and put on those aprons as the experts guide you through your first professional pizza slice. It starts off with a quick history lesson on the history of pizzas, how the dough is made and a run through of the sauces and ingredients. Don’t be too distracted by their humour. There are tons of winning tips about to do hand stretch your dough to perfection, or what ingredients to use!
There are tons of ingredients to play with. The cold cuts and cheese platters are a gold mine. From smoked mozarella to fontal cheese and chorizo to soppressata, there are also mushrooms, fennel and fresh herbs. And, since we are in Singapore, we must not forget the dangerous chili padis. Make sure to hang out around the chefs as you pick out your ingredients as they are more than willing to give you ideas on a winning combination.
The only catch is the stopwatch. Collection of the ingredients is timed – just like on the show!
If you were to ask me the best part about making my own, it would be adding as much cheese as I want. Remember to tear your cheese into chunks. Cover all grounds, and make sure every bite gets a good layer of glorious, gooey cheese. The pizzas are popped straight into the oven to bake. Before you know it, the waffling aroma of charred dough and crackling cheese reaches your senses. But, it is not over. Taste aside, presentation is your final key to victory.
Slice them up, any way you want and arrange them for the final presentation – on Jamie’s iconic wood paddle. There are patterned napkins, fresh herbs and rocket leaves and more cheese for you to win over the judges. If it were up to me, I would be covering my slice in a mountain of Parmesan, but, sadly, that won’t win me any flavour points (keep a block aside when you finally get to eat it).
All in all, the entire experience is a lot of fun, even for someone who has been banned from the kitchen for being an absolute disaster (hint: me). Now, I just need 5 other people – who’s gonna volunteer?
