In the mood for durians? We absolutely love durians! That fragrant fleshy meat. Goodwood Park Hotel’s annual Durian Fiesta is back till 31 July 2017. The Peranakan has also introduced an eight-course durian meal.
Goodwood Park Hotel Durian Fiesta
This year’s Durian Fiesta at Goodwood Park includes six new creations using D24 or Mao Shan Wang durians over various periods. That’s a total of 14 confectionaries.
The six new creations include the D24 Starry Starry Night Ice Cream Cake; D24 Sunflower Seed Crumble Tartlet; D24 Cashew Nut Crumble Tartlet; D24 Matcha Cake and D24 Salted Caramel Cuppa.
The D24 Starry Starry Night ice cream cake is created with a distinctive charcoal sponge wrapped around a core of creamy homemade durian ice cream. That has to be my favourite. The cake is topped with gold stars made of icing and dark chocolate. A slice costs S$13. There is also a 350g or 700g cake priced at S$33 or S$58 respectively.
The D24 Sunflower Seed crumble tartlet or Cashew Nut variant looks hard because of the seed and nut toppings. But when you bite into them, it is surprisingly soft yet crunchy. Under the sunflower seeds or cashew nuts is durian mousse coated with buttery vanilla crumble on an Oreo cookie tartlet base. Absolutely divine. The D24 Sunflower Seed Crumble Tartlet is priced at S$11.80 for two pieces or S$30 for six. The D24 Cashew Nut Crumble Tartlet is priced at S$11.80 for two pieces or S$30 for six.
We love crepes. This is not new, but this signature dish still tastes great. Priced at S$9 for two pieces, the Durian crepe is also available at S$23 for six pieces or S$62 for 20 pieces.
Get a soft toy. The Durian Fiesta Mascot – Spiky the Bear is priced at S$22. No. You cannot eat it. But who wouldn’t mind a snugly dressed bear in an adorable durian shell ‘onesie’. And it is a limited-edition available from 1 April to 31 July 2017 at The Deli.
From 27 May to 31 July, it is all about Mao Shan Wang at The Deli. Take away the Mao Shan Wang Power Puff jumbo-sized profiterole at S$19.80 per piece or the Mao Shan Wang Mousse Cake at S$65 for 500g. There is a Mao Shan Wang Designer Cake that is shaped like a cross-section of a durian, complete with a ‘husk’ made of fresh cream and yellow ‘flesh’ made of Mao Shan Wang mousse. It is priced at S$50 for 350g.
Goodwood Park Hotel is located at 22 Scotts Road, Singapore 228221.
The Peranakan Gila Durian Eight Course Meal
The folks at The Peranakan has taken advantage of the durian season to offer an eight-course meal of Durians consisting of appetisers, starters, main course and dessert. The spiky fruit feast is priced at S$38++ per person with a minimum of two people and requires advanced bookings.
Appetisers consist of toasties with durian and a sliver of kaffir lime leaf and Durian Pengat made of steamed D24 with thick coconut cream and gula melaka. Starters include a classic pandan chiffon cake topped with D24 and Kampung Purée on the bottom layer, drizzled with Gula Melaka sauce and roasted grated coconut. The other starter is a deep dried lightly salted fish skin. The main course includes Pulot Enti Durian which is blue glutinous rice cooked in coconut milk topped with D24 and finely julienned tumeric leaves; and Fragrant rice with Musang King meat. For the final course Dessert, enjoy a serving of Chendol with D24 and free flow of hot lemongrass or pandan tea.
