The 12th Edition of FairPrice Group’s Made in Singapore Fair is now ongoing till 8 November 2023 at all FairPrice stores and FairPrice Online. The annual event organised in collaboration with the Singapore Food Agency aims to provide local farmers and producers a platform to showcase their products.
Singapore aims to produce 30% of the population’s nutritional needs locally, up from the current 10% by the year 2030, and FairPrice continues to stay committed in their support of local farmers and businesses by carrying their products across its outlets.
This year, over 40 Singapore-made products from local suppliers, including fresh vegetables, domestically farmed fish and eggs, ice cream and soy sauce are showcased. The launch event was held on 26 October at FairPrice Xtra in VivoCity.
FairPrice Group has also committed S$2.9 million to the SME Suppliers Support and Development Programme (SSDP) this year. The SSDP was introduced in 2012 to help local SME suppliers cope with rising business costs, provide them a platform to share and gain insights from peers and industry experts, and widen their opportunities for business growth through deeper collaboration and mentorship. Since then, FairPrice has committed over S$18 million to the initiative, benefiting over 500 SME suppliers here.
SMEs participants benefit from support measures including modified payment terms to ease cash flow, essential for small business survival, marketing support to promote their products, subsidised sales reporting and analytics services, and exclusive networking opportunities specially organised by FairPrice Group to bring like-minded suppliers together.
Sales for these products grew by 33 percent from 2019 to 2022, with eggs contributing more than half of total sales. Besides eggs, locally farmed seafood and vegetables, including pomfret, seabass, beansprouts, and kale, were popular with customers.
We also learnt more about the SG Fresh Produce Badges. There are three different star ratings for the certification. 1 star recognises locally grown fresh produce from SFA-licensed farms. 2 stars are given to produce grown in farms certified Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) standard). A 3-star SG Fresh produce badge is given to produce that is fresh, quality assured and Clean and Green certified. These logos are easy to identify on the packaging of eggs, fish, vegetables and local fresh produce that are proudly farmed in Singapore.
