White Rose Cafe at York Hotel Singapore has a limited-time menu of six Asian rice bowls priced at S$16+ each for the months of June and July 2018. The menu include a Healthy ‘Vegan-licious’ rice bowl; beef donburi with wafu sauce; braised pork rice; minced pork with Thai basil; lemongrass grilled chicken and Sambal Ikan. Each dish is served with a vegetable soup and a choice of desserts.
I tried out the Healthy Vegan-Licious Rice Bowl and particularly like that I could campur (mix) the ingredients with the rice like Nasi Campur or the Korean rendition of Bibimbap. Ingredients include deep-fried bean curd, sautéed mushrooms, kimchi, black fungus, corns and cucumbers above olive fried rice. Homemade oriental sesame is drizzled over the rice for an added aroma.
The Beef Donburi with Wafu Sauce rice bowl is another delightful dish. Wafu sauce is drizzled on to the grilled beef. Black and white sesame rice is topped with Onsen egg, shredded white cabbage with yuzu dressing, corn and Japanese pickles. This dish of robust flavours is a perfect reason to head over to White Rose Cafe.
Will have to head down with my friends to try the other rice bowls before the end of July. Go with more people, so each one can order a different rice bowl and share.
And if you are not into rice, the Yee Pin Mai Fun or sliced fish with vermicelli is another of my favourite dish. And also that Curry Fish Head.
