Herald the year of the rabbit with a great feast throughout the 15 days of the festivities. With no more restrictions to dining in, there are many fabulous options to consider. And for those who still prefer to dine in the comfort of home, there are some pretty good takeaway or delivery options as well.

5 on 25 Andaz

Head Chef Lim Hong Lih of 5 on 25 at Andaz Singapore is known for his mastery in reworking classic Cantonese dishes. The Chinese New Year menu is available until 5 February 2023 with set menus available for both lunch and dinner from S$98++ per guest.

The Yu Sheng here differs from others I have had. It comes with birds nest instead of fish slices or abalone. Some of Chef Lim’s new dishes include the Braised Hokkaido Scallops with Ee-Fu Noodles and Truffle Sauce (S$38++), Deep-fried Lobster, Apple with Hone Sauce (S$58++), Dang Gui Crispy Roasted Duck (S$45++ for half and S$90++ for whole) and Chilled Sweetened Water Chestnut, Red Dates, Lotus Seed and Peach Gum (S$18++)

Bookings are open for CNY as well as the restaurant’s private dining suites, Ruby and Emerald. Reservations can be made by calling the restaurant or on the 5 ON 25 website. Takeaway options are also available. Place orders two days in advance.

15 Stamford by Alvin Leung is offering set menus for lunch and dinner from 9 January 2023 to 5 February 2023 – a four-course set lunch menu (S$78++ per person) and a five course set dinner menu (S$168++ per person) with an option of wine pairings at an additional S$88++ per person.

The lunch menu features the Haddock “Yu Sheng”, chargrilled Abalone with spiced pineapple, Spanish ham, chilli petit pois and corn shoot, as well as the Kurobuta Pork Shoulder paired with romanesco, pork fat potato, lardo crisp and topped with a pineapple glaze. There is the “Nian Gao” mochi with desiccated coconut, palm sugar and Thai yam ice cream for dessert.

The dinner menu features Razor Clam & Balaone with a tamarind gel, shallot, olive caviar, black fungus and a chilli-lime emulsion. Other dishes include the Canadian Lobster & Quail, the Flounder served with fried baby leek, lemon grass and coconut foie gras. Finish the night with a traditional and refreshing Osmanthus Soup packed with the goodness of water chestnut, peach gum and white fungus.

The S$138++ per person lunch reunion features a hearty Drunken Chicken with Sea Jelly and Smoked Duck Breast, Braised Sea Treasure and Shredded Abalone in Essence Broth, Steamed Red Garoupa with Garlic Sauce and Braised Ee Fu Noodles with Crab Meat and a Sweet Walnut Cream Soup to end.

The six-course dinner is priced at S$168++ per person. Start with a Crispy Soft-Shell Crab with Green Wasabi & Mango followed by a Double Boiled Chicken Soup, Matsutake Mushroom, Dried Scallop and Sea Cucumber. Contemporary Asian creations include the 10-head Abalone & Dried Oysters with Stir-fried Vegetables and a whole Steamed Chilean Sea Bass with Crispy Fermented Bean & Conpoy Crumbs for added abundance. End the meal with the fragrant Glutinous Rice with Japanese Dried Scallop & Chinese Preserved Meat and a delightful Hot Walnut Dew Soup with Rice Dumplings.

An eight-course CNY dinner (S$238++) starts off with The Capitol Kempinski Abalone Yu Sheng Platter and continues on with an indulgent an indulgent Pan-fried Foie Gras and Chilean Sea Bass with Orange and Mango. Guests will be treated like royalty with the Bird Nest and Dried Scallop Soup and Steamed Red Garoupa Fillet with Black Garlic Sauce. Herald in good luck with the Braised Sea Cucumber with Black Moss and Chinese Mushroom and Fried Zhenjiang Pork Prime Rib. Wrap up the new year celebrations with Baked Rice with Chinese Preserved Meat and Mud Crab Meat, followed by the crowd favourite Mango Pomelo with Vanilla Gelato.

Cassia at Capella Singapore

Cassia’s Executive Chinese Chef Alan Chan presents an elegant repertoire of Cantonese dishes On 21 January 2023, Cassia unveils its Prosperity Reunion Set priced at S$188++ per person, featuring delicacies such as Chef Alan’s signature Double-Boiled Thick Chick Broth with Bird’s Nest, Bamboo Pith and Flower Mushroom, as well as the Buddha Jumps Over the Wall, made using the freshest ingredients including Braised Fish Maw, Japanese Dry Scallops, Black Moss, Dried Oysters and coated with a special brown sauce. At S$228++ per person, the Fortune Reunion Set highlights a luxurious menu featuring Braised Bird’s Nest with Caviar, and the Baked Kurobuta Spare Rib, coated in a delicious black pepper sauce.

From 22 January 2023 to 5 February 2023, diners can also anticipate some of Chef Alan’s masterful ala carte creations. Highlights include Double Boiled Fish Maw Soup with Cordyceps and Conpoy, which is tenderly boiled over 8 hours; the deliciously crispy Signature Suckling Pig Skin Roll Stuffed with Glutinous Rice, the Braised South Africa Abalone, Japan-Kanto Wild Sea Cucumber in Brown Sauce; as well as the Stewed Golden Bird’s Nest with Scallop and served in a Superior Pumpkin Broth, which bodes well with one of the restaurant’s many enchanting tea selections. 

Set menus are also available until 5 February 2023. The Double Happiness Set (S$188++ per person), which features delicacies such as the Braised Imperial Bird’s Nest with Shredded Abalone in Supreme Broth and the Baked Spare Ribs in a Special Sweet and Sour Sauce; as well as the Deluxe Fortune Set (S$228++ per person) which presents Double-Boiled Thick Chicken Broth, Fish Maw, Bamboo Pith and Wild Mushroom, and the Wok-Fried Japanese Miyagi A5 Wagyu Beef with Black Pepper Sauce. Prosperity Lou Hei, Tossed Salad with Salmon and Kumquat Sauce will also be available at a special price of $S48++ (2 to 4 people) with each of these sets. 

Available at S$388++ for 6 – 8 persons, Cassia’s Premium Lou Hei comes served with abalone, lobster, bird’s nest, salmon, and the chef’s special homemade apple sauce. For more intimate gatherings, Cassia also offers the Prosperity Lou Hei at $88++ for 2 – 4 persons, which comes with salmon and homemade apple sauce.

Cherry Garden at Mandarin Oriental Singapore offers a classic Prosperity Yu Sheng with Artic clam, salmon and crispy fish skin or a Triumph Yu Sheng that is topped with caviar, black truffle, sweet shrimp and salmon. The Chicken Soup is packed with American ginseng, fish maw, conpoy, Chinese mushroom and sliced abalone. Other highlights include the Braised 4-head abalone in oyster sauce with premium sea cucumber, Chinese mushroom and dried oyster in beancurd pouch, Sautéed Lobster with braised ee-fu noodles and garlic in superior broth.

You don’t see any other yu shengs out there with braised Sea Cucumber replacing raw fish. Crunchy frisée lettuce and ice plant give the yu sheng a more refreshing bite. Its other contents such as kaffir lime leaves, onions, carrots, jellyfish head, pomelo, dried persimmon, and red capsicum and roasted peanuts and cashews. Available for dine-in at Crystal Jade Palace, Crystal Jade Golden Palace and Crystal Jade Pavilion as well as takeaway until 5 February 2023.

Hai Tien Lo at Pan Pacific Singapore

Cantonese restaurant Hai Tien Lo at Pan Pacific Singapore offers a selection of eight curated set menus from S$128 per person. Executive Chinese Chef Aaron Tan of Man Fu Yuan at InterContinental Singapore and his team have put together a selection of dishes with seven different set menus. From minimum two to dine set menus starting from S$168++ per person, to set menus for five guests from S$798++ as well as sets for 10 guests from S$1688++, there is something for everyone. A vegetarian set is also available with a minimum of two to dine at S$148++ per guest.

Pre order the Roasted Suckling pig with five-grain glutinous rice three days in advance at S$488++.

For takeaways, There are the Roasted London Duck with Pineapple and Abalone (S$198nett for whole duck), Donjiang Style Salted Baked Chicken (S$68nett for whole chicken) or the Man Fu Yuan Abundance Treasure Pot (S$468 nett). Min Jiang at Goodwood Park Hotel and Dempsey offer a selection of Chinese New Year festive dishes exclusive to each outlet. The Goodwood Park Hotel outlet offers a Five Blessings Lo Hei at S$298++ per large portion for delivery or S$321.85 nett per large portion of takeaway and delivery. At Dempsey, there is an Auspicious Abundance ‘Lo Hei’ at S$238++ per large portion and S$257.05 nett per large portion. The latter features a duo of bunnies and ‘carrots’. Master Chef Goh Chee Kong impresses guests with a vibrant choice of ingredients and eye-catching presentation. Salmon slices and raw salmon belly are arranged to resemble carrots while the adorable bunnies are made from omanthus jelly with goji berries as the ears.

Enjoy a Flourishing Prosperity Tier at S$118 nett for 16 pieces, with 2 pieces per flavour. Available for takeaway or delivery, the tier set features eight pairs of dainty entrements crafted into auspicious icons of different colours, shapes and designs by Goodwood Park Hotel’s pastry chefs.

Take away the Min Jiang Five Fortune Appetiser Platter for S$192.25 nett for six people. This medley of tantalising appetisers comprises Chilled Mini Abalone with Sweet Chilli Dressing; Deep-fried Prawn with Mentaiko Mayonnaise; Marinated Jellyfish Flower; Barbecued Ibérico ‘Char Siew’ and delicious Boxing Chicken slathered in a sticky marmite sauce. 

Another takeaway or delivery dish to consider is the Braised Boneless Pork Knuckle, Homemade Pork & Prawn Balls and Sea Treasures in Pot (S$429.85 nett for 6 persons, includes pot). Pork knuckle is braised for three hours until fall-off-the-bone tender before it is deboned. To balance out the ‘meatiness’ of the dish, the pot brims with an array of delicacies like whole abalones, sea cucumber, roasted pork belly, dried scallops, black moss ‘fa cai’, Chinese mushrooms, ‘Tientsin’ cabbage and handmade meatballs made from prawn paste, minced pork and water chestnut. The dish is then simmered with chicken broth that is rendered into a hearty sauce. 

Mio Fine Foods

Mio Fine Foods at 82 Neil Road launches the Edible Garden Yusheng at S$58++ to herald the year of the rabbit with a combination of crunchy and tasty ingredients such as sunflower and sesame seeds, ginger, roasted almonds, pumpkin seeds, wakame, lotus chips, tempura crisps and its very own house-made plum sauce. A very different and refreshing yu sheng compared to those we have tasted elsewhere.

Serving four to six persons, the yu sheng comes with Abalone Mushrooms and Assorted Sashimi. Available for dine-in and takeaway.

Executive Chinese Chef Daniel Cheung has curated a selection of dishes at Shang Palace for to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Four eight-course set menus are available from S$188++ to S$338++ per person. Highlights include the Fortune Yu Sheng with Norwegian Smoked Salmon and Poached Lobster, Braised African Candy Heart Dried Abalone, Pan-fried Foie Gras and Roasted Suckling Pig, Sautéed Boston Lobster with Superior Stock, Sautéed Scallops and Pacific Clams, Braised Bird’s Nest Soup and Steamed Star Garoupa. 

Shang Palace is also offering a festive à la carte menu of thoughtfully crafted signature recommendations including Fortune Yu Sheng, Roasted Peking Duck, Sautéed Lobster, Braised Abalone, Braised Pork Knuckle and more. For lunch, a Dim Sum Delights menu is available until 5 February 2023 and features Rabbit-shaped Custard Bun, Steamed Clam and Shrimp Dumpling with Caviar, Steamed Jade Scallop Siew Mai with Crab Roe, Deep-fried Prawn, Cuttlefish and Dace Paste in Lychee Shape, Steamed Diced Cod and Shrimp Dumpling, Baked Abalone Pie and more.

A limited-edition Auspicious Rabbit Yu Sheng is arranged into an endearing image of a cute rabbit and is available for dine-in orders until 5 February 2023. The Auspicious Rabbit Yu Sheng is served with South African Abalone, Hokkaido Scallop, Local Lobster and Scottish Smoked Salmon, and is priced at S$388++ for 6 persons, with a minimum of 2 days’ advance order.

Si Chuan Dou Hua

Si Chuan Dou Hua at TOP of UOB Plaza brings back the Home Delivery Menu with items such as pencai and yusheng till 5 February 2023 exclusively for UOB cardmembers from S$588+ for six people and S$888+ for 10.

At TOP of UOB Plaza, Executive Chef Hoo Chee Keong kicks things off with a fresh and contemporary Fugu Yusheng available through the set menu and a la carte at S$198++. Placed upon a bed of fresh greens instead of shredded vegetables and drizzled with the yuzu sauce, the dish makes for a refreshing start to the set menu. The fugu sashimi is exclusive to all three outlets this Chinese New Year, being the only Chinese restaurant in Singapore to serve it.

Guests ordering the set menu can also enjoy the Braised Rice with Mullet Roe, Lobster, Waxed Meat and Pumpkin. The sweet pumpkin balances out the burst of flavour from the mullet roe, making it both enjoyable and extravagant.

Celebrate your Reunion Dinner at White Rose Café on 21 January 2023 from 6.30 pm to 10 pm. The Reunion Buffet Dinner will feature dishes such as Steamed Red Snapper Fillet with Superior Soya Sauce and Fried Garlic; Stir-fried Pork Belly with Leek and Chilli Bean Sauce and Roasted Sirloin of Beef with Mixed Chinese Spices and Black Mushroom Sauce. You can also takeaway dishes such as the ‘Good Fortune’ Combo at S$268 nett that feeds five to six people. The combo comes with a large Prosperity Lo Hei with Mini Abalone and Crispy Fish Skin, Eight Treasures Chicken, ‘Fa Cai Luo Han Zai’ and Fragrant Fried Rice with Preserved Meat wrapped in Lotus Leaf.

Other takeaway highlights include the Golden Treasure Seafood Pot that serves five to six people at S$168 nett. The pot contains an assortment of seafood such as fish maw, sea cucumber, scallops, goji berry, and shark’s cartilage collagen broth in a casserole pot. There are also the prosperity Lo Hei with Mini Abalone and Crispy Fish Skin at S$55 nett for regular and S$68 for large); Eight Treasures Chicken (S$88 nett); Braised Pork Knuckle with Sea cucumber, Black Moss and Broccoli (S$98 nett) amongst others.

Hop into the year of the rabbit with the star of Xin Cuisine’s Chinese New Year Takeaways – Japanese Unagi Yu Sheng with Roselle Sauce. Mouth-watering and nutritious grilled Japanese Unagi slices that is sweet-savoury is paired with Chef’s concoction of Roselle sauce to balance the toss with sweetness and a hint of fresh flower. Available in small and large portion, for dining in and takeaway. 

4 Other Yu Sheng selections are available; from the best-selling Xin’s Signature Salmon Yu Sheng to Vegetarian Abalone Yu Sheng to Sliced 2-head or Baby Abalone Yu Sheng. Additional salmon, abalone and crackers are also available for order.
