Auchentoshan has handpicked and bottled a rare expression of single malt Scotch just for Singapore. 383 bottles of the limited edition 1987 30-year-old single cask are bottled exclusively for 1855 The Bottle Shop. Each serialised bottle is priced at S$1,088 and it comes in a box that is embellished with a hand-written “Singapore 2018” detailing.
At Auchentoshan, weāre really excited to launch the Single Cask programme, and I personally handpicked a refilled Oloroso Sherry Butt for Singapore as I felt it would appeal to the Asian palate, allowing more of the spirit character from the distillery to come through
Auchentoshanās Master Blender Ron Welsh.
On the nose, the 1987 30 Years Old Single Sherry Cask reveals sweet honey and molasses notes moving to exotic fruits, guava, melon and white peaches. You can taste acacia honey with lychees and rose petal, cooked apple sprinkled with cinnamon, a hint of white pepper, sweet spices and light ginger with a finish of sweet fresh oaky spices and vanilla.
A one-night-only four-hands dinner was held on 13 November at Wakanui Grill Dining featuring food from Wakanui and Yen Yakiniku with Auchentoshan whisky pairing. Guests got to enjoy canapĆ©s paired with the 12 years old Malt Cocktail. The Thick Wagyu OX tongue with salty kombu appetiser was paired with Auchentoshan’s 21 years old malt while the baked ‘Saikyo Miso’ scallop with mango, ginger, rice milk, sea grapes and sea urchin sauce was paired with the Auchentoshan 18 years old malt.
For mains, there was an A4 wagyu striploin steak with sea salt and wasabi. It was paired with the Auchentoshan Three Wood Malt that had a fresh and fruity finish with long lasting oaky sweetness. The Binchotan Grilled Ocean Beef Ribeye Tsukudani of Japanese Pepper and Bottarga was also paired with the Three Wood Malt.
The highlight of the dinner was the 1987 30 YO Single Cask. This was paired with the smokey chocolate and brie cheese.
