“All right, I shall be Mum,” stated the mother-of-four, and Missus Victoria Beckham stepped upfront to announce tall girls back, smaller ones front, and “some can kneel out here” as her assistant prepared to shoot a group photo on Posh’s smartphone.
Awww you gotta give it to the missus, first thing she does on meeting us is to have a picture taken, everyone, with her.
Long Hair flushed to her left – “the heat, I’m going home with a big frizz” – the petite Vic is a vision in form-fit grey, with sneaks of white at hem and elbow. The heels are tallships.
After “we will send each of you the picture”, we circled her range.
A rose-tinted collection exclusive to On Pedder customers. A quartet of exquisitely executed handbag styles from her pre-autumn 2014 in limited edition soft pink. From pale clutch to oversized shopper (for prices, totter now to On Pedder).
Do you sketch with a pencil, or your children’s crayons? She was near apologetic, “Oh I’m not very good with sketching…” (Eyes skywards, thank you technology!)
Note: It was one of the most professional of media events, our meet with Victoria Beckham.
Everyone was on time, in place, and it ran with clockwork precision. Themselves chic and articulate and gracious, the entourage said welcome, help yourself to a drink, and in five minutes this is what we’ll do. In five, the former Spice girl appeared, said hello, organised our group selfie, and then answered questions.
She never says never, but right now no, no VB for children, nor for plus-sizes, yet. “I do celebrate curves, even though I don’ have any, I have dressed Oprah (Winfrey), and I would like to dress Hillary Clinton.”
(Back to the drawing-block then, for an presidential inaugural gown, perhaps?) A quick chuckle, no, she’d never be able to get her children to model for her, and as for David, no, he needs no style tips from the wifey, as he has a good sense of fashion himself. Mental picture. David Beckham. Billboards. Be still my heart.
How and where does she find the time. Wife. Mother. Once-upon-a-singer. Businesswoman.
“I have a small, very good team of people. And you have to focus. I take the children to school, I attend all school things, everything revolves around the family.”
So you stick post-its on the ‘fridge door then?
“No. Never. It’s all up here,” and the elegant and lovely Victoria tapped her temple with a perfectly manicured finger.
She’d been in Singapore 48 hours and not left the hotel, the Marina Bay Sands, as “there’s just been a lot going on, to do, but I think we are going out tonight, so I hope to try something typically Singaporean later.”
We were patted off with a pair of Victoria Beckham sunnies, handmade in Italy. What a real pro, and such a very nice girl at that.
A month later, hubby David Beckham will be heading to Singapore for a fan meet with Marina Bay Sands social media fans. Read about that here.
