Triumph Inspiration Awards 2010

28 April 2010 – Twelve fashion students showcased their lingerie designs at Amore Living fitness and spa club at City Square Mall. By interpreting this year’s design theme of “Shape Sensation”, the students competed for the honour of representing Singapore at the Triumph Inspiration Awards Final held in the fashion metropolis of London in September this year.

The showpieces were presented in a fabulous catwalk to a panel of five distinguished judges well-immersed in the fashion industry. The question-and-answer sessions were engagingly active, with the judges fielding questions ranging from relation to the theme, to design technicalities like colour blocks, lines and silhouettes.

National Winner

Grace Eliana Sugiarto, 22, from Raffles Design Institute was crowned as Singapore’s National Winner, wowing the panel of judges with her concept titled “Preserved Beauty”. Grace not only walked away with cash and prizes worth up to $2,000, she also got an all expenses paid trip to represent Singapore in the International Final of the Triumph Inspiration Final 2010, competing with twenty-seven other national representatives! as National Winner of the Triumph Inspiration Awards 2010.

Allowing a 1-piece lingerie comprising a bodysuit to be entered in the TIA for the first time in 2010 has inspired Grace. She explains her piece eloquently, “Today’s bodysuits are inspired by the wrapping methods of mummification—but using nude stockings instead of linen bandages. My inspiration was Pharaoh Hatshepsu, the first woman to rule Egypt and she brought much prosperity, wealth and peace in her time! Although she has lived thousands years ago, she would be rocking the lingerie in the other world.”

First Runner Up

Foo Jia Wen, 21, from the Raffles Design Institute came in as 1st Runner-Up with her piece titled “My Ideal Sexuality” and received $1,500 worth of cash and prizes.

Second Runner Up

Sandar Aung, 32, from the Raffles Design Institute was awarded the 2nd Runner-Up with the design “Touch the Solid Mass” and received $1,000 in cash and prizes.

The judging panel, made up of professionals from the fields of design, fashion and media, included Mr Alfie Leong – Singapore fashion designer, Ms Grace Lee – Editor-in-Chief of Nüyou, Ms Sharon Lim – The Editor-in-Chief of ELLE, Mr Yeoh Wee Teck – The New Paper’s correspondent, and Ms Doy Teo – Director of Triumph International Singapore.

Based on the following criteria in mind: innovation and creativity in interpreting the design theme “Shape Sensations”, individuality and uniqueness, concept, aesthetics, quality in design and execution, as well as presentation, the judges agreed that Grace’s piece deserved to be called the most inspired and inspiring of them all.

In September, a commercial piece of TIA 2009’s international winning design by James Nolan from Great Britian—”Odette and Odile”—will be sold in stores as a limited edition. Keep your eyes peeled.
