It is finally that time of the year. Singapore Fashion Week 2015 (used to be called Audi Fashion Fest) is about to take flight with the stunning Diane von Furstenberg opening the event this coming Wednesday (13 May 2015)! Coming back stronger than ever, the official line up of world class designers, international celebrities and home-grown designers and labels will all have one thing in common – Asian Talent.
Women Power
This year, SFW will celebrate emerging and established women in the industry – from the iconic Diane von Furstenberg, pop-turned-style icon Victoria Beckham, Oscar Winner Cate Blanchett, South Korean superstar of Coffee Prince fame Yoon Eun Hye to Buro 24/7 editor Miroslava Duma. They all are inspirations, motivations and the strength for many in the industry, with Diane hoping to push forward the local scene during the SFW Fashion Talk series (we will be covering this so stay tuned)!
Runway Extravaganza
The line-up is jam-packed and a fashionista’s dream come true – with Diane opening the show on the 13 May 2015, and Victoria closing on the 17 May 2015. We will also see Australian designer Dion Lee bringing his interpretation of science, nature and his unique environment to the runway, along with New York-based Thai-American designer Thakoon Panichgul’s latest Fall 2015 collection of 19th Century regalty. (Thakoon will also be joining Diane during the Fashion Talk session to give worthy advices and experiences to the local scene!)
There’s more. IT-girl Velda Tan will be launching her womenswear brand, COLLATE THE LABEL, in collaboration with Sony; local label exhibit will be collaborating with Singapore accessories brand ALT by Curated Editions again to present an impressive collection of ready-to-wear and accessories; Tex Saverio will be participating with Love, Bonito; while online fashion store ZALORA will be presenting Malaysian brand WOO/FIZWOO and, their new in-house label, ZALIA. We can’t leave out the gentleman out either. Melbourne-based Singaporean designer, Nelson Yap, will be showcasing his collection with Benjamin Barker on the 16.
Taking Singapore’s Fashion Scene to the Next Stage
There’s definitely more to SFW 2015 than just beautiful wrap dresses and killer stilettos for the local designers. Three of Sinapore’s established designers, Priscilla Shunmugan of Ong Shunmugam, Sabrina Goh of ELOHIM and Chelsea Scott-Blackhall of Dzojchen, will be showcasing their latest with a mission. They will be the pioneers of Fashion Futures, with the ultimate goal to bring Singapore’s talents into the international market place. Let’s bring Singapore to Fashion Capital status by giving them some support and checking out the month-long Official SFW 2015 Pop-Up Store at TANGS Orchard!
Tent@Orchard
Walking pass Ngee Ann City, the giant Tent@Orchard must have caught your attention! Head in there for a peek as there’s actually a lot going on in there. Last year winners from the Audi Star Creation Capsule Collection, Rebecca Corrine (Hong Kong), Zhou Jun (China), Newman Han (South Korea) will also be showcasing their capsule collections, alongside 15 best works from the LASALLE Degree Fashion Show 2015 and 10 emerging designers from the region featured in Harper’s BAZAAR Asia New Generation Fashion Designer Awards 2015.
There is just so much going on this fashion-filled weekend, I am almost jumping out of my seat with excitement. Get everything in order by checking where you should be with their SFW Calendar, and make sure to get your tickets from SISTIC while you still can!
