Here is the not new news, Robinsons the legendary department store in Singapore’s shopping history is moving.
Its Centrepoint premises is being deployed to its brand new spanking quarters in what was once The Heeren building, (and Metro takes over the Centrepoint space).
Robinsons’ move is more about moving with the times. Where once you ventured there for special occasions – wedding presents, hot date and formal date dressing, expensive linens and homeware – today you can shop from inexpensive to costly, even stuff that tests your sense of humour (porcelain bowtie).
If you’d noticed a showcase outside Robinsons Orchard, it was the result of six visual merchandising designers given a 48-hour challenge to come up with a display. Which they did – using 10,000 Swarovski crystals! Certainly stopped shoppers in their tracks.
Encouraging is its giving over lots of room to local designers, a fresh batch, selling under inventive labels such as Stolen (ode to architecture), The Reckless Shop, Lie (everyday luxury), Cassey Gan (comfort and style), J Apostrophe.
And to accessorise, there’s always Paris Bijoux, and Atelier Swarovski. Going the way of fashion collabos which appear to be the rule of thumb for many a brand now, Swarovski has tied with over 50 leading designers, from the fields of even architecture.
You can now wear Zaha Hadid Swarovski. Personally I’ve got my eye on the latest collabo, with Martin Margiela.
