Rain rained on my parade. The Korean superstar did not perform, well not in song and dance anyway. My bad. Rain was here to perform the opening of MCM’s flagship store – first of its kind in Asia – in the Marina Bay Sands Shoppes.
All tied in with FIDe’s Fashion Weeks, currently holding elegant court in Hall F of Marina Bay Sand’s Expo. Over 11 couture-charged days, 40 fashion designers showcase creativity that spell Asia’s (another) first “fashion season”. Fashion Week 2013 platforms the best in men’s and women’s pret-a-porter and haute couture from Europe and Asia.
Tick, Stephane Rolland, Alexis Mabille, Julien Fournie, Guo Pei, Sebastian Gunawan, Songzio, among a stunning array of names that should be dangling from your closet hangers if you know your Tom Ford from your Ford-T (baby you can drive my car).
But back to The Rain-y night of the MCM show.
The kunk (Korean hunk?) reigned supreme in the f’row (front row in runway speak) with banks of paps and fans clicking and flash popping him (seated between Singapore’s two best-dressed, Miss Emily Hwang and Dr Georgia Lee). He finally took a bow, and the Flower Boys In Paradise blossomed on the catwalk.
It’s MCM’s (the Munchen brand bought by Mrs Kim Sung-Joo entrepreneur extraordinaire) S/S 2014 collection and, boys and girls, flower power is back. With a vengeance. A burst of optimism and sunshine days are back, jackets and skirts and backpacks and holdalls and clutches and shirts and pants and overcoats.
A glowing garden of possibilities for tour look next spring summer. The after-show gala dinner in the crystal chandelier ballroom was spectacular, a big band played, the most beautiful soup I have ever supped appeared piping hot, Rain signed an MCM bag for silent auction, and then carriages. (There’s never a shortage of taxis at Marina Bay Sands.)
Our photographer Shirly Hamra captured the night.
