Today, to sell A, you’ve got to enlist B & C to put on a D at E for F, G, H. And so it was one afternoon this week. To launch M +KL in an FS (flagship) way, they called on INVT (innovation).
Melissa is a 30-something year old shoe brand from Brazil, famed for its jelly footwear. Think carnivals of samba, stretches of beach, waves of bikinied babes and bronzed hunks, cool caipirinhas, doing the bossa nova in a pair of jellied heels.
Aye, caramba, these are not jelly shoes at flipflop prices. Not when these last five years Melissa has collaborated with the sketch pads of Jean-Paul Gaultier and Vivienne Westwood.
The shoes are a Willy Wonka delight, they smell candylicious, and are of excellent quality. The debut collection (Takashimaya and Wheelock Place) draws inspiration from the world of movie magic.
So naturellment, guests shared freshly popped corn and red velvet ice-cream with the likes of Charlie Chaplin, Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, James Bond and a Bond Girl. Men in black served up cocktails (Brazilian kopi infused) and sliders against great music. Mickey & Minnie Mouse and the Pink Panther came too, but in their shoe incarnations.
The Melissa for kids are a gem!
Its main showcase is from the kaiser himself, Karl Lagerfeld, and they are gorjus, herr KL.
Door gift was a pair of plastic brooches, truly cool. Unless your name is not Melissa..
