Audi Fashion Festival 2014 - Prabal Gurung

The Must-Attend AFFair

Audi Fashion Festival 2014 - Prabal Gurung

That was the week that was then.

Movie mogul Harvey Weinstein was a no-show in Cannes, a first in 20 years(!), Wills’ wifey Kate Middleton didn’t turn up at Windsor Castle for a charity gala, and then Oscar de la Renta couldn’t make it to Audi Fashion Festival’s closing Sunday.

Harve was elsewhere otherwise occupied with Syria matters. His Grace of Monaco got less than serene reviews in Cannes (“So wooden it was a fire-risk”), Duchess Cambridge was home minding the baby-future-king, thus incurring the veiled wrath of Ralph Lauren who’d under-written the Windsor event (some one-and-half million pounds or dollars).

As for Oscar de la Renta, spare a thought, he is greying, and Singapore’s Orchard Road is an almighty long haul from home. But the master fashion designer did the next best thing, sent his daughter in his place. That’s classy dignity.

Audi Fashion Festival 2014 - Prabal Gurung

The annual Audi Fashion Festival, under the Tent@NgeeAnn, got off to a bells & whistles start with its Prabal Gurung opener from the man from Nepal who has dressed the lady in the White House.

Ngee Ann City’s carpark was bumper-kiss-bumper as socialites, sponsors, were let off to tail it into the tent. The community of fashion bloggers – who now outnumber socialites – and guests spilled out from MRT trains to claim their seats. Media in place. Have you noticed the best-dressed are indeed the fashion bloggers?

Audi Fashion Festival 2014 is a must-attend affair.

This year’s five-day showcase showcased as well Asian designers Jo Soh’s hansel, Ong Shunmugam, usual suspect Ashley Isham, Singaporean-across-the-Causeway Farah Khan, Messrs Gurung & Renta, and a clutch more, from Desigual to Parco’s Dresscamp Fall 2014 with Gorgeous W and the most fab men’s shoes from where I was sitting. Ditto clothes and bags.

Standout faces in the crowd – Godfrey Gao and Kate Bosworth, appearing for SK-II.
“Did you say Kopi Kao?” “Godfrey Gao lah!”

Space in the tent was well-spaced, The English Tea Shop, Belvedere vodka serving the best cocktails you’ve yet imagined (rye goes with everything), Haagen-Dazs, wines, champagne, and everybody’s fave – Pellegrino, the thirst quencher for scorchers, like Godfrey Gao. Kao liao.
