Other sold out Indie and Singer-Songwriter festivals in Asia such as  簡單生活節《Simple Life》, 河岸留言演唱會, Indie Pop 草地音樂節 and the crossover appeal of Indie and such acts in today’s music landscape are the reasons James Kang of Play Music, the organizer of the festival is bringing this possible annual affair to Singapore.  Co-organizing the event is Woohoo! Experience.

The line up of the six artistes with over a thousand ‘live’ combined gigs all around the world with countless prestigious music awards include:

Crowd Lu 盧廣仲 (Taiwan)

Under The Stars 2011 - Crowd Lu

Crowd Lu’s destiny with music is intriguing. In his freshman year at University, he was run over a bus, leading to severe injuries in both legs. During his months of hospitalization, he picked up the guitar and experimented with music composition.

The quirky & inimitable style of Crowd Lu was born. The release of his debut album “100 Lives” caught the music industry by surprise, and propelled him to the top of the charts – altering the trend of heavily manufactured pop music in the market. In 2009, Crowd Lu was honored with the prestigious Golden Melody Awards for “Best New Artiste” and “Best Composer”.

Crowd Lu’s adorably geeky glasses, paired with a mushroom like hairdo also made him an unlikely fashion icon!

Lala Hsu 徐佳瑩 (Taiwan)

hocc 何韻詩 (Hong Kong)

Under the Stars 2011 - HOCC

hocc is a Hong Kong songwriting superstar. She remains the only female artiste in history to be the apprentice of her childhood hero – the late music legend, Anita Mui.

As a singer, composer and producer; hocc takes control of her music with great success. She is one of the most experimental artistes in HK today, and also one of the most Awarded.

Her solid performances in musicals and tremendous ‘live’ performance energy led to sold-out tours not only in HK, but also worldwide – from Toronto, Canada to Atlantic City, USA.
A Staunch Advocate of Social Commentary, hocc’s music & lyrics are arresting and controversial. Her edgy soft rock band style has become synonymous with her name.

In 2011, she conquered the Taiwan market with her widely-praised Mandarin album and was deservedly nominated for Best Female Vocalist at the Annual Golden Melody Awards.

katncandix2 棉花糖 (Taiwan)

Under the Stars 2011 - katncandix2

katncandix2 is a 2-member band that started as a Street Musician Duo in 2007. The singer-composer band is anything but fluff (as their name ironically suggests) – their music is thought provoking, warm and inspiring. This winning combination garnered massive attention for their first album [2375].

Nominated at the Taiwan Golden Melody Awards Ceremony twice for the coveted “Best Group” Award, katncandix2 offers an exciting fresh sound to the industry. The duo had been invited for numerous showcases and festivals in Taiwan, Hong Kong, China and Singapore.

Ellen Loo 盧凱彤 (Previously from at17) (Hong Kong)

Under the Stars 2011 - Ellen Lu

A “Most-Watched” name in the HK music industry, Ellen Loo is a rare talent. Besides innovative compositions, she was also the chosen guitarist for many famous names in HK, such as Sammi Cheng and Joey Yung.

Ellen Loo started off as a member of popular Indie girl-band “at17”, winning the hearts of fans with their unpretentious & pristine sound. The group was credited with pioneering the genre of “Folktronica” in Chinese music – blending Folk Music seamlessly with Electronic elements. Their private showcases around Asia (including Singapore) are often sold-out within hours.
