6 December 2011, Singapore – Have you caught the Steven Spielberg animated movie “The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn”? Tintin, the young reporter in The Adventures of Tintin series of comic albums, is created by Belgian comic artist Georges Remi, commonly known as Hergé. Tintin and his faithful dog companion, Snowy, began their adventures in 1929 and have been featured in 24 comics. Their adventures have brought them to India, Tibet and China in Asia, Congo in Africa, Arabia in the Middle East, Russia in Europe, North and South America and even to the Moon. With over 200 million comics sold worldwide, the Tintin series have been translated into more than 100 languages including Chinese, Hindi, Japanese, Malay, Thai and Arabic.
Coinciding with the release of the movie in Singapore, the Singapore Philatelic Museum has brought in rarely seen original stamp artworks, colour trials and other philatelic materials from the Museum Voor Communicatie in the Netherlands and L’Adresse Musée de La Poste in France for an exhibition display for the first time in Singapore.
The full range of Tintin postage stamps issued by Belgium, France and the Netherlands from the Permanent Collection of the Singapore Philatelic Museum are also on display.
Other Tintin comics and collectibles will also be on display.
The exhibition runs at the Singapore Philatelic Museum from 5 November 2011 to 31 May 2012.
