The Singapore Teochew Festival is held in a huge scale at the Atrium in front of Ngee Ann City for the first time in Singapore. Here you get to immerse in the culture, food and wares of the Teochews. The 11 day-festival spans an area of over 30,000 square feet comprising 20 vendors ends this Sunday, 5 October.

Last Sunday, we dropped by to check it out. We wanted to find out more about the Teochew culture and get acquainted with some of the famous Teochew dishes. We were in for a pleasant surprise when we learnt that Bak Kut Teh, Kong Bak Pau, Fried Kway Teow with preserved radish, Fishball and Fish dumpling and Orh Luak were some of common Teochew dishes.
The food is from Jian Ye Restaurant, Chin Lee Restaurant, Ping Ping Ju, Ah Biao, Swatow Seafood Restaurant, Chui Huay Lim Teochew Cuisine, Li Xin Fishball Noodles and Mi Qi.

From the largest Golden Boat ever seen in Singapore by Soo Kee Jewellery to Teochew opera performances and sale of intricate wood and jade carvings or embroidered works, there is much to do and see. Be prepared for huge crowds of people and a long queue. Last Sunday at around 1pm, the queue was from the centre entrance of Ngee Ann City where the entrance of the festival is, up till where Chanel’s entrance was.

Tickets to the Singapore Teochew Festival are sold at S$5 per person. Additional coupons priced from S$25 are available on site for purchases of food and other items sold at the festival.
We can’t get the official jingle off our minds. We absolutely love it. Jambalaya on the bayou!
