20 November 2010, Singapore – At 745 pm today, President S.R. Nathan officiated the Christmas Light Up Switch On Ceremony for a “Starlit Christmas” – the theme for this year’s Christmas in Singapore’s shopping belt. The Community Chest also hopes to raise S$55.2 million this year through a series of roadshows across the island.
Singapore Tourism Board invited me and Dennis to witness the ceremony and to an open top bus ride on Hippo Bus to personally experience the light up together with other media and guests. This is my first time attending the light up ceremony or should I say, my first in Orchard on the first day of light up in the last 27 years. I personally recommend visitors and Singapore residents to go for a ride just to enjoy the view and snap wonderful memories with your camera. You’ll be amazed at how low the Christmas decorations are. You could almost reach out and touch the lights above you on top of the double-decker open top bus. Tourists get to enjoy free Christmas Lightup Hippo Tours. Click here for more info.
For tourists coming to Singapore, you can also catch Walking on Dinosaurs from 1 – 12 December. If you are into the clubbing and DJ scene, check out Trance Maestro DJ Bobina at Double O on 3 December. You’ll have to visit Raffles City and its mix of retail and dining outlets as well as a stone’s throw to nearby malls at Suntec and Marina Square.
