Singapore Biennale 2013 Features Southeast Asian Curators

Singapore Biennale 2013

The fourth edition of the Singapore Biennale 2013 with the theme “If The World Changed” opened on 26 October and will continue on till 16 February 2014.  This year’s Biennale does not have an Artistic Director to curate the art works. 27 distinguished curators from participating countries including Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and Australia have been brought in instead.

This year’s Biennale has a strong South East Asian focus. There are 82 artists and art works, including 67 commissioned artists. The artists have been picked based on their practical knowledge of the arts scenes in their respective countries. Based on this year’s theme, the artists curate the works based on their perspective of the changing world(s) they have experienced.

Nine venues around Singapore are hosting the Biennale. These include SAM at 8Q, National Museum of Singapore, Peranakan Museum, Singapore management University, Waterloo Centre, National Library Building, Fort Canning Park and Our Museum at Taman Jurong.

Visitors can look forward to contemporary art works, curator tours, public performances and film screenings.
