The Penang World Music Festival returns 12 to 13 April 2014. 12 culturally exotic bands of diverse genres from Folk, Balkanization, Gypsy, Reggae, Tribal, World Jazz and more will be performing at the 130 year old Penang Botanic Gardens in Penang, Malaysia.
World Grammy nominee N’Faly Kouyate from West Africa and Belgium will be one of this year’s highlights. N’Faly is know as the “Jimmy Hendrix of the Kora”, a West African bridge harp.
Dance to the energetic and vigorous drum beats of Tribal Drum group Dolly Kunita, a popular Indian act who perform the ancient dance of the Goodies Horse Dancers from Rajasthan. Other acts include Flamenco group Davila Trio, Alvorada Pé Vermeil from Brazil, and traditional Malaysia flute and Rabana players from Malaysia.
Tickets to the Penang World Music Festival 2014 are priced at RM80 for a day pass or RM140 for a two day pass.
Hong Kong’s only low fare airline, HK Express is this year’s Official Airline Partner of the festival. HK Express will be onsite during the festival offering chances to win prizes such as free tickets to various destinations on its network. A Facebook competition is ongoing in the month of March to give away free round-trip tickets to Penang as well as free passes to the festival.
HK Express introduced its Hong Kong – Penang route in November last year. The airline commenced flights on 27 October 2013 from Hong Kong to Phuket, Chiang Mai, Taichung, Kunming, Kota Kinabalu, Penang, Tokyo-Haneda, Osaka Kansai, Fukuoka (from 10 April 2014) and Seoul-Incheon (from 30 March 2014)
