Unbelievable! When Chen Tian Wen rocked our shores with his music video, I bet he did not realise that it would hit 4 million views on YouTube, or be made into a movie! Titled Mr. Unbelievable, this local comedy plans for release in early December at Shaw Theaters with an all-star cast including Getai veteran Liu Ling Ling along with comedic powerhouses Marcus Chin (I Not Stupid, The Best Bet) and Tosh Zhang (Ah Boys To Men, The Lion Men).

Originally a character from Season 2 of MediaCorp’s award-winning sitcom “Spouse for House“, Tian Wen’s Eric Kwek has become a household phenomenon, with his 70’s inspired croons playing on American and Australian airwaves. His character will reunited with director Ong Kuo Sin (Judgement Day, Sayang Sayang) for the movie, with a new rendition of this Huang Qing Yuen-styled Ah-beng tune.
As for the storyline, it stays true to Eric’s endearing character. It will be a feel-good movie, telling the “comedic tale of an underdog who never loses his integrity and belief in his brand of music”. Really, what else could you expect from the all-star comedic cast? All dressed in red, Liu Ling Ling reveals that she will take on the role as Eric’s love interest, with Marcus Chin taking on a more serious role as a music coach. Tosh will be the sidekick character, acting as Eric’s ever-supportive disciple.
Tosh reveals that filming has already started, with much hilarity. I do hope they reveal a behind-the-scenes as we await the movie. Tian Wen jokingly put Kuo Sin on the spot as he reminiscences those days where he demands his character to start crying at the wee hours of the morning for the TV sitcom!
And, as a sign of good things to come, Tian Wen was heard singing along to his famous “un-un-un-unbelievable” as the press conference came to a close. Is he Eric? Or is Eric him? The lines are starting to blur.
