Of course I would rather be dunking my kaya toast in my kopi in my neighbourhood coffeeshop. Of course. I would Rather than chase about between Marina Bay Sands and where the Orchard meets the Scotts, roads. But somebody has to go and try to talk to Victoria Beckham (family & personals, OB markers). And Kate Bosworth and her coveted SK-II ambassadorship appointment. And Eva Longoria, oh never mind her, one ain’t that desperate a hussy. I suspect Chanel had a VIP dinner, but I’d already eaten…
Sandwiched between Kate & Vicky, the local brew uncaged its international big cat, Tiger, in a tented event by the Bay waters; and Magnum, those cool people who concoct ice-cream in gold and silver, also threw a party, in Avalon in the Crystal Pavilion. (Elsewhere in the MBS Shoppes Oakley & Ferrari were making spectacles of their brands in a sunnies event fuelled by cocktails & canapes, and sunglasses.)
Altogether a shining, silvery, roaring cool time was had by all, confirming it is a merry month in May.
Kate Bosworthy
When the Beach Boys wrote California Girl, they surely had in mind the likes of Kate Bosworth. Well, actually Kate’s mum. The actress said, “My mum’s truly a California girl, blonde hair, pale skin, tall slim lovely.” (Suntanned teeth I bet.) And she still looks the same, the 30-year-old actress chimed. Kate is the bright new star for SK-II and its 30-year-old miracle of crystal clear skin line of products. She explained how she simply took her cue from her mum – living fresh and free and simple, and following the rules of enough sleep and plenty water and some exercise. And here it comes: “Of course I never am without my SK-II facial treatment essence and SK-II stempower essence.”
She is a positively lovely girl, with that signature SK-II luminous look, and so girl-next-door, you hope movie producers find her a Doris-Day-type feature to star in. Kate met media in SEVIIN, the beauty lounge in Tangs and she made time to have pictures taken, with individual media. As equally accommodating as SK-II is with every skin type.
Ran into her with her husband director Michael Polish, none too shabby himself, at the Audi Fashion Festival closing show. She was of course wearing Oscar de la Renta (he’d made two wedding gowns for her) and she was of course also wearing SK-II.
Tiger Uncage
Not cirque du soleil with and for cats, but the most popular beer serving up free-flow for friends in a circus-tent-like atmosphere, alongside the ArtScience Museum.
The gods must have been magnanimous (no, no, this is not the ice-cream event) because it was hot as H E double-hockey-sticks (two LLs lah) and it was all you could do to empty the crates of bottled Tigers.
Good job, global warming. Plus plenty of finger food – sliders were great – serving as thirst-prompters. I think the live music tried to echo jungly sounds which made us feel even more caged in by the heat. And then curtains down and we were given doorgifts to unlock, nice idea, Team Tiger!
Magnum-num
Who knew, Magnum the chocolate-coated cold confection is 25 years old? And began life (in a freezer, natch) in Germany? Today it is all over the globe, have you not seen their worldly ads? And they come in several colours – the ice-cream, not the ads, well maybe yes those too – such as dark chocolate brown, pink, gold, even pock-marked (with almond bits, simply luscious).
Magnum’s Pleasure Seeker party was to introduce and launch its latest member of handhelds, the silver ice-cream bar on a stick. Food, drink, chocolate fountain so you could customise your Magnum, 10 toppings! And then a fashion show, of chocolate-inspired jewellery, practically crying out: Eat me please!
Finger-dripping good, Magnum guys!
