When it comes to desserts and all things chocolate, no one can beat Singapore’s very own Chef/Artist Janice Wong. Her ever-innovative desserts and culinary art have won hearts from all over the world, with Tokyo still buzzing with delight at her newest restaurant in Shinjuku. Nothing stands in her way this 2016, as she continues to ace the culinary world by bringing her kitchen to this year’s Margaret River Gourmet Escape.
Happening from 18 to 20 November 2016, the festival will celebrate five years of mesmerising food encounters at one of Western Australia’s notable wine regions. It promises to be another mouth-watering adventure, with masterclasses, brunches and intimate Q&As with some of the world’s finest Chefs, producers and wine makers hailing from all over Australia to the UK.
One thing to look out for, especially if you’re a fan of Chef Janice’s 2am : dessertbar, will be her collaborative dinner with main man behind the Michelin-starred Dinner By Heston Blumenthal (London and Melbourne), Chef Ashley Plamer Watts. Titled “Voyage To Dinner Presented by Singapore Airlines“, the two chefs will present an elegant dinner paired with premium Voyager Estate wines. Not to toot on my own patriotic horn, but the dinner is sure to end on a sugar high with dishes such as the burst-in-your-mouth Lemon Explosion.
It does not stop there. Right over at the Gourmet Village at Leeuwin Estate Winery (AUD$4o for entry), the festivities continue with The Chef’s Theatre and Gourmet Great stages, where there will be tons of cooking demonstrations by domestic goddess Nigella Lawson, Joan Roca, Rick Stein and more. It will also be the one-stop location to get a taste of what makes Western Australia’s produce, wine, breweries and restaurants so endearing.
Chef Janice also promises to bring her signature frozen mousse, Chocolate H20 to the grounds – but with a twist. With so much amazing produce right before her, it only made sense for her to roll with it, and attempt to make her iconic signature dessert with the freshest ingredients there. And, perhaps (fingers crossed), something with the world-class wines there?
Those in Singapore wanting to head to Margaret River Gourmet Escape can check out Singapore Airlines, Farmosa Travel, Wel Travel, Blue Travel and Chan Brothers for already available travel packages. Tickets for the event and individual programmes can be purchased on their website here.
