(UPDATE – 7 July 2013) The public has voted! Tian Tian Chicken Rice and 328 Katong Laksa has proven to be more popular by voters while Gordon Ramsay’s Chilli Crab was better than Jumbo Chilli Crab. When we tasted Gordon Ramsay’s Chilli Crab, it was spicier than Jumbo. The queue started from 1am the night before and more than 1000 people got to try the dishes before they voted for their preferred version of each dish.
Singapore hawker heroes beat Gordon Ramsay in the live poll by 6% of the total vote. Tian Tian Chicken Rice won by 6% and 328 Katong Laksa by 19% while Gordon Ramsay’s Chilli Crab won by 5%.
Chef Ramsay said: “It’s been phenomenal to see how passionate the people of Singapore are about their hawker fare. The hawkers have impressed me with their ability to whip-up dishes with such amazing flavours. Now that I’ve experienced the best of Singapore cuisine, I can say without doubt the people of Singapore have much to be proud of – authentic, genuine, simple food, that is of amazing quality and full of flavour.”
3 July 2013, Singapore – After a total vote count of over 2.5 million votes, Michelin Chef Gordon Ramsay will be facing off Mr Ang Kiam Meng from Jumbo Seafood (319,922 votes), Mdm Foo Kui Lian from Tian Tian Chicken Rice (318,151 votes), and Mr Ryan Koh from 328 Katong Laksa (316,611 votes), at Newton Food Centre this Sunday at SingTel Hawker Heroes Challenge.
From 6pm, the public will be served with 1000 servings of the competing dishes, this is a non ticketing event and the dishes are available on a first- come-first-served basis. After the tasting, the public will have the opportunity to sample the dishes by Chef Ramsay and the hawkers, and decide who does it better through a live vote.

Huh!? The judging will be a live judging based on dishes served previously and not next to Gordon’s dishes? Seriously!?
How unbiased is this expected to be!?
The dishes should be served next to each other for tasting via a blind vote.
No wonder Singapore is never taken seriously when nothing is managed at a level routinely done internationally.
If Singapore is proud of their food and culture (and they deserve to be!!), then stand up and do this in the fairest most unbiased manner!
