If you have not seen the Chingay Parade in Singapore, then there is no better time do it than on 19 and 20 February 2016. Tickets for the 44th Chingay Parade are now on sale through SISTIC starting from S$28.50.
Held at the F1 Pit Building on 19 and 20 February 2016 at 7.30pm, this year’s theme for Chingay 2016 is “Lights of Legacy, Brighter Singapore”. This year’s parade promises to be the brightest ever with the biggest full-scale illuminated show.
Do you know what the word Chingay means? It is the Hokkien dialect equivalent to the Mandarin word Zhuang Yi (妆艺)which means “the art of costume and masquerade”. Chingay was first mooted by the first Prime Minister, the late Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, to compensate for the ban on firecrackers which was a customary New Year practice to drive away evil spirits with its noise and gaiety.
This year’s parade celebrates the values of Racial Harmony and Social Cohesion, Caring Community, Resilience as a Nation, Can-Do Singapore Spirit and Uphold high moral values.
