5 August 2011, Singapore – CapitaLand and National Geographic Channel today announced the winners of the CapitaLand “Building People” Photography Competition at the opening ceremony of the “Building People” Photography Exhibition at ION Orchard. For the second year running, this regional photography competition received over 1,200, photo entries from Asia Pacific and Europe. Here are the winning entries along with the judges’ comments:

1st - Wong Chek Poh - Clarke Quay. Singapore

First Prize – “Clarke Quay, Singapore” By Wong Chek Poh (Singapore)
Clarke Quay comes alive in this photo that methodically captures the bright lights and flamboyant colours at sunset. With its modern architecture overlooking boats of tradition, the image shrewdly implies the concordant relationship shared between old and new.

2nd - Liew Tong Leng - Clarke Quay, Singapore

Second Prize – “Clarke Quay, Singapore” By Liew Tong Leng (Singapore)
A play on perspectives, the precision framing works wonderfully to focus attention onto Clarke Quay’s idiosyncratic buildings. Tall skyscrapers in the background provide the perfect contrast to denote the area’s laissez-faire temperament.

3rd - Thomas Phoon Kong Wai - Illuma, Singapore

Third Prize – “Iluma, Singapore” By Thomas Phoon Kong Wai (Singapore)
Taken from below, the building’s beautiful attributes are embellished in expert manner. Surrounded by a cloudless evening sky, this photo of eccentric shapes, bold forms, and bright colours captures the charm behind Iluma.

Special Commendation - Suhaimi Abdullah - ION Orchard, Singapore

Special Commendation Award – “ION Orchard, Singapore” By Suhaimi Abdullah (Singapore)
Leaving just enough to sneak a glimpse at the crowds beyond, this dramatic and similarly provocative photo is a tribute to the area’s night life hustle.

Special Commendation - Lee Ee Mian - ION Orchard, Singapore

Special Commendation Award – “ION Orchard, Singapore” By Lee Ee Mian (Singapore)
Penetrating the depths of ION Orchard, this photo depicts people with various body languages as they pass through a luminous interior adorned by flowing, sinuous lines. The photo harmoniously blend people from all walks of life with the space in the unique architecture.

Special Commendation - Wang Da He - Raffles City, Beijing
Wang Da He Raffles City Beijing

Special Commendation Award – “Raffles City Beijing” By Wang Da He (China)
Interpreted from the ideal position, the arcs form a proverbial frame to encapsulate one of Raffles City Beijing’s most striking elements: its unique budding lotus feature.
