29 May 2011, Singapore – A series of complimentary activities have been planned for both the young and old this June school holiday, revolving around three travelling exhibtions – Van Gogh Alive, Dalí: Mind of a Genius, Shipwrecked: Tang Treasures and Monsoon Winds. These complimentary includes workshops on ceramics, making of “shrinky dinks” and skateboarding performances.

This June school holidays, bring your kids to the ArtScience Museum at marina Bay Sands to enjoy activites that are free of charge. You may even leage the museum with a handmade souvenir from one of the many planned workshops.

You can take up the new family package which is valid till 31 October 2011 and is priced at S$80 for a group of 4. You can save up to S$40 in total admission costs

Workshops for families and children of all ages

(Starting from 29 May 2011 to 26 June 2011 every Tuesday to Sunday from 4.00pm to 5.00pm)

  1. Baking Time! Create “shrinky dinks”, shrinkable plastic sheets that can be customized to form key chains and other trinkets and bring them home as souvenirs. (1 to 26 June 2011 except Mondays)
  2. Create own creations like Van Gogh paper collages inspired by the master painter’s artwork.
  3. Ceramics Workshop: Learn to create replicas of certain artifacts displayed in the ArtScience Museum from an art instructor together with pupils of Huamin Primary School. (8, 11, 22 & 25 June 2011 from 12.00pm to 3.00pm)
  4. Learn to “Paint like Van Gogh” in a workshop conducted by Pioneer Junior College Students on small canvases that will be provided. (10 and 17 June 2011 from 3.00pm to 6.00pm)
  5. Genius Tape Sculpture workshop – Use scotch tape to make translucent sculptures with students from Holy Innocent’s High School to illustrate ideas on Surrealism while you try your hands on tape-casting smaller objects so that you can bring home after. (3, 5, 24 and 26 June 2011 from 12,00pm to 3.00pm)
  6. The Tang Ensemble Performance: Maris Stella High School Chinese Orchestrae students will showcase solo and ensemble performances. These students will be sharing their experiences of playing their musical instruments and Chinese music. You can try out the various musical instruments. (4 & 18 June 2011, 1 & 8 July 2011 from 12.00pm to 1.00pm)
  7. Sound Scoring Through Voice: Learn to use your voice as a tool to create and dissect imagery of Van Gogh’s paintings, and bring out the sounds in his masterpieces. A kid’s music theatre specialist will be leading the young visitors in exploring their voices as an instrument for sound scoring. (14, 21 & 28 June 2011 from 10.00am to 11.30am)

Workshops for Older Children, Teenagers and Adults

  1. Middle Kingdom Race Board Game: Shipwrecked: Tang Treasures and Monsoon Winds: Learn about the direct maritime trade route from China to the Persian Gulf and beyond. There’s a board game designed by Pioneer Junior College titled Middle Kingdom Race. Discover geological position of the provinces that produced the Tang treasures and the roles these provinces play in modern China. (4 June 2011 from 1.30pm to 5.30pm)
  2. Skateboarding performance by 20-year skater, Mark Ong at the gallery that houses Van Gogh Alive – The Exhibition. Mark will skateboard amidst the artistically choreographed musical and visual sequence of the exhibition, interacting and exploring the space that projects the gigantic images of Van Gogh’s artworks. (2, 9 & 16 June 2011 from 3.00pm to 3.30pm)
  3. Dalí: Mind of a Genius – The Exhibition : watch the award-winning film Dalí Dimension: Decoding the Mind of a Genius that retraces Salvador dali’s obsession for science, which lasted his entire life. Dali speaks about his passion for sicence together with previously unseen footage of Dali with scientists. This film reveals a completely unknown aspect of one of the most important figures of the 20th century, and gives new insight to interpret soe of Dali’s masterpieces. (Everyday from 14 May from 4.00pm to 5.00pm)
