Philippines Got Talent…and the rest

Starry Starry Night. Singapore’s grand finalist entrant in Asia’s Got Talent danced and sang to the country’s theme tune: We’re In The Money.

The 11 girls (12th dropped out because of exams) in Dance Thrilogy sent a thrill down spectator spines with their amazing tap-dance rhythm.

And if they win, “We’ll put the money back in the dance school!” they chorussed. So Singaporean?

It’s gonna be a big tough IF.

Asia’s Got Talent, launched off here in Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands Mastercard Theatres all those weeks ago, culminated back in MBS last night for the live recording of its Grand Finals.

Asia's Got Talent held a fan meet at the Skating Rink in Marina Bay Sands on 8 May 2015. The nine finalists were presented to fans together with the judges. Games were played and some lucky people got to sing on stage while David Foster provided piano music.

Judges David Foster, Anggun, Van Ness Wu (clearly the favourite in decibel cheering), Melanie C and hundreds of noisy passionate rabid vocal fans and supporters did not let the house down.

If – standing on the outside – you thought you felt the earth move, thank heavens not another earthquake, but the Asia’s Got Talent grand finals rocking MBS’s roof off.

So why the big tough IF? Because Philippines got talent. The rest got lucky.

Of the nine finalists, China 1, Japan 1, Mongolia 1, Thailand 1, Singapore 1, Philippines 4.

Mabuhay! The winner’s gotta be one of you talented guys, or there’s no justice.

If you saw the telecast on AXN, you’ll likely agree, if you haven’t, watch the repeat on AXN, you’ll surely agree. (Hello, it’s not about ethnic cultural shows okay?).

Of the judges, Foster (no Simon Cowell) has to play it safe (in multi-diverse Asia), Anggun truly needs help with her choice of wardrobe, Mel C, who remembers her today, Van Ness still hot.

It’s a hard call to find a jury panel for Asia who’ll clear all the bases. Speak English, know Asia, know the differences in Asia. Good luck with that, I know who I’d nominate, Jackie Chan!

It was a rocking night, as the fullhouse audience got into the groove with help from the “warmbee” who was generous with sponsors’ goodie bags.

You could Grab a Taxi, powered by Caltex, to catch your Jetstar flight, after having shampooed with Pantene, and a glug of Big Cola.

The entertainment value was inclusive of GST (got see talent) as we got to see sets struck up and down for each act, and judges could patter with audience, and take selfies with the performers outside.

Cheesy moment: China’s pair of acrobats (what were you expecting) on completion, China man says to China girl, I have an important question to ask you, (here I went: awww shucks NOOO!) and of course he did ask her to marry him.

I tell you, ah, these foreign talents…
