The first night of Singapore Grand Prix 2015 kicks off with Pharrell Williams pumping up the crowd with his top hits and silky vocals. Accompanied by a band, two amazing backing vocals and four power players of The Baes, Shae Hayley joined the stage mid-way, performing N*E*R*D’s alternative rock/hip-hop hits much to the delight of long time fans.
Reminding us that he is one of the most influential songwriters of our time, he performed collaborative hits like Snoop Dogg’s “Drop It Like It’s Hot” and Gwen Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl”. Sadly, aforementioned superstars were not present, but the backing vocals and dancers held their own; almost giving Gwen a run for her money.
On that note, The Baes are truly no joke! Miley Cyrus could not hold a candle to the twerking skills those girls showed off as Pharrell took a breather backstage. They have got the attitude and the skills to hold a performance of their own. Trust me. I’d would be there, front row.
It was obvious he had some pretty dedicated fans over in Singapore. Neither drizzle scares nor the overwhelming heat got to these fans who continued to hold their “We Love Pharrell” boards up high throughout the performance. A lucky bunch even got the chance to rock it out during N*E*R*D’s blend of R&B and rock, leaving the rest (and me) green with envy!
It also got me yearning for an adidas ensemble. Good product placement there, Pharrell. Very good placement.
He may have skipped a couple of lines to the backing track, but he showed his prowess where it mattered. The audiences were wowed and wanted more. Still, the night had to end, and the Singapore Grand Prix could not have asked for a better summer vibe to start it off.
