“I’ll stay with you one more night.” If only that was true, Adam! Maroon 5 took the stage on the second night of the Singapore Grand Prix, with heartthrob front-man Adam Levine getting the never-ending sea of the Padang crowd rocking to his hit-filled set. Proof? You have never seen unity until you heard thousands and thousands of F1-goers, screaming for an encore.
Howling in with “Animals” from their latest album “V”, it was obvious Adam was not going to let “hot as sh*t” Singapore pull him down. Never short of energy, enthusiasm and falsettos, even the weariest of the crowd got their hands up and cheering for the band’s soulful, adult pop-rock.
The only problem? It was way too short! After five successful albums, they have got so many top hits, just over an hour could not come close to covering how amazing they are. Still, mic stand in hand, Adam satisfied through crowd-favorites of “Payphone”, “Harder to Breathe” and, of course, the breezy “This Love” that propelled them into infinite stardom.
Let’s not forget the well-oiled machine comprising of Jesse Carmichael (multi-instrument), Mickey Madden (bass), James Valentine (lead and rhythm guitar), Matt Flynn (drums) and PJ Morton (keyboards) matching to Adam’s every single note and beat. You have got to give it to them!
The best moment of the night came when he responded to the crowd’s energy with a soulful, acoustic encore of “She Will Be Loved”. Just a guitar and his four octave vocal range reminding us how timeless that song is. Good looks, endless charm and tight jeans in tow, he knew how to throw a concert and he knew how to end it all with a bang. He gave what the fans have been waiting for (some of which since the moment the gates opened!) – a little “Sugar”. Well, more than a little. It got a little harder to breathe as he gave in to the heat, got topless while shredding on a neon pink guitar, showing us exactly why he was named People’s Sexiest Man Alive in 2013. If if was up to me, he should get that every year; one for every tattoo this man has.
Truly a night to remember, seeing Maroon 5 live is one of the best decision any person can make. They are an incredibly talented band, with a frontman who knows to work a tough crowd with his honest sincerity, giving all the feeling that we were just at a big party with our best friends. I’ll give anything to hear them live again, and you should too.
