12 December 2012, Singapore – According to the latest results from Starcount, teen pop sensation Justin Bieber has snatched the title for all-time most popular and influential person in global social media from Mother Monster Lady Gaga.
Justin Bieber’s recent surges on social media have helped dethrone Lady Gaga and she now slips to second place. While they are very close in terms of their Starcount scores (Bieber has a score of 374,825,719 and Gaga of 371,924,790), Bieber’s growth rate on social media completely eclipses Lady Gaga’s. In the last week alone, Bieber has risen by almost 600,000 Facebook fans compared to Gaga’s 160,000. Justin Bieber is behind on total fans though, with 48.8 million, while Lady Gaga has 54.2 million Facebook fans.
On Twitter, Bieber is edging closer to the coveted top spot, with over 315,000 new followers in the last week, taking his total up to 31.3 million followers. Meanwhile, Lady Gaga has increased by 208,000 followers in the last week and has a total of 32 million followers. Thanks to his Beliebers, even the simplest of tweets is retweeted tens of thousands of times, whereas Gaga’s Twitter account has been much less active in recent weeks, with fewer retweets.
Gaga’s lack of recent music releases is one of the reasons she has fallen behind on YouTube views, as Bieber has now reached a staggering 3.2 billion views on his main YouTube channel, JustinBieberVEVO where Gaga is trailing with 2.3 billion views (LadyGagaVEVO).
In addition to Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, Gaga has profiles on Google+, VKontakte, Renren and Orkut and Bieber has profiles on Sina Weibo, Mixi, VKontakte, Renren and Orkut. Starcount aggregates data from the 11 biggest networks to reflect the truly global nature of social media.
