29 June 2011, Singapore – I had a very engaging conversation with the Senior Vice President and General Manager of Southeast Asia for FOX International Channels (FIC) last week upon touching down at Changi Airport. Mr. Avi Himatsinghani is responsible for developing the channels in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. Having worked in Hong Kong for many years from 2000 previously, Avi is is currently based in Singapore. Before moving into his current role, Avi was the Senior Vice President of Revenue and Partnerships.
If you’re living in Asia, you have to be an avid fan of at least one of Fox International Channels 26 cable channels including FOX, FOXlife, FOXCRIME, FX, STARWORLD, STARMOVIES, National Geographic Channel, NAT GEO Adventure, NAT GEO Wild, NAT GEO Music, Channel V, Babytv, tvN, FOXMOVIES, FOX History and Entertainment, FOX Sports International and FOX Networks.
Under Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation’s international multi-media business, FIC develops, produces and distributes 183 wholly- and majority-owned pay-TV channels across Latin America, Europe, Asia, The Middle East and Africa in 35 languages, reaching over a billion cumulative households globally.
Personally, I watch National Geographic, FOX and STARWorld regularly and enjoy their programming that gives me hours of pleasure especially during the weekends. I ensure I don’t miss STARWorld’s double bill programmes GLEE or American Idol. Singapore, being a multi-ethnic country, would be able to get a plethora of programming from FIC’s various various channels catering to the Hindi, Tamil, Chinese and English programmes, making it a melting pot for FIC’s services.
5 years ago, when FIC launched HD channels in Singapore, the hardware was ahead of the content and not much content was filmed in HD but today the content is filmed in full HD. National Geographic took the bold step to launch full HD 5.1 for its programming. So there’s lots of exciting content for HD fans out there. 8 of 15 HD Channels on StarHub are FIC’s offering a wide breadth of content.
13 years ago, FIC starting airing on the incumbent then, SCV (now known as StarHub Cable) offering its subscribers more options and it has been a very good relationship between them. One of the reasons, why I still have StarHub cable is because of my favourite channels.
STAR World recently launched the Star Movies Pack and a very cute online campaign. Check out Simon Mah and his take on Star Movies.
