TIGER DESIGNS
The tiger only gets its limelight once every 12 years. So it’s nice to collect some of these feline designs to remember this special year. Some may look fierce but a lot of them are pretty cute too. Which are your favourites? Please let us know in the comments at the end of this post.
The eighth edition of the National Heritage Board’s Museum Roundtable Lunar New Year Hongbao Campaign sees two new MR members – Geylang Serai Heritage Gallery and Kreta Ayer Heritage Gallery increasing the collection from 33 designs last year.
This year NHB has collaborated with Instagram artist Ms Emily Luo, who loves cats. Emily’s Instagram account features drawings of cute cats. Emily shares that she enjoys drawing cats and the tiger is a big cat. This collaboration is a meaningful one for Emily because she feels that many in Singapore are not aware of the different museums here. The art on these red packets are attractive to children and hopefully, this would also motivate adults to bring them to visit the museum.
Ode To Art has collaborated with famed Thai contemporary illustrator and designer Phannapast. Born and raised in Bangkok, Phannapast is known for her whimsical works inspired by Asian fairytales and her obsession with nature. This year she is collaborating with Junya Wanatabe for his 2022 collection. She has also worked with brands such as Gucci and Nike.
Garçon Design, a homegrown design agency known for the Re(Claim) box: Art Meets Sustainability featured in The Straits Times in 2020, has released a vibrant Tiger Triptych Hong Bao box for the Chinese New Year. Each box contains a mix of 10 red packets in vivid blue, orange and green hues. An imposing Tiger walking on water or lounging on land are featured on these red packets. The three designs form a larger triptych when placed side by side. The energitic waves, wistful clouds and undulating landscape flow through all three designs.

Schroders has thoughtfully designed its red packets this year to minimise packaging waste and eliminate the use of plastic. Each set is produced using FSC-certified paper that has been harvested in a responsible manner. Schroders has also cut down on the production quantities of red packets and encouraged recipients to convey blessings to family and friends digitally via i-banking, through a QR code printed on each red packet. Schroders has collaborated with the Singapore Children’s Society (SCS) to raise awareness of children and youths from underprivileged backgrounds. Beneficiaries of SCS have hand-coloured these 6 unique digital festive stickers, which are available for sharing with family and friends via social messaging apps like WhatsApp and Telegram.
Skechers is giving out its specially-designed 2022 Year of the Tiger lucky red packets for free to customers who spend a minimum of S$100 nett.

Instead of just collecting red packets, many brands have also designed “accessories” and sustainable ways to reuse or make your red packet collection more fun and long-lasting. Be a little different and stand out from the sea of red packets. Have a unique colour so that those who receive it will always know this is from their favourite uncle or aunt.
