10 August 2011, Singapore (Contributed by Kristen Juliet Soh) – Perfume-lovers ought to feel like a child in a candy store when they visit Escentials in the next two months. That’s because several new, niche and novel fragrances are seeing their way to the stores.
Annick Goutal Mon Parfum Chéri, par Camille
This perfume has a simple and sweet story behind it: Camille Goutal, daughter of Annick Goutal, found an old perfume, which was a gift to Annick, stashed away in their office. Camille fell in love with the woody, timeless fragrance that has survived decades with no signs of aging. Obsessed with this unusual fragrance, which brings back memories of her mother dressing for an evening out, Camille concocted Mon Parfum Chéri, par Camille (which means, My Beloved Perfume, By Camille). Just as Annick dedicated one of her first perfumes, Petite Chérie, to Camile, the daughter dedicates this perfume to her mum. This fragrance is available at 50ml for S$151 or 100ml for S$206.
Maison Francis Kurkdjian Aqua Universalis forte
Those who love the Aqua Universalis eau de toilette will be pleased to know that Francis Kurkdjian decided to launch an eau de parfum version – the limited edition forte. Composed with the same “sunny” emotions found in Aqua Universalis, forte has extra intensity and lingers on longer. The eau de parfum is still concocted with Sicilian citron, but also features bergamot.
Serge Lutens Vitriol D’Oeillet
After launching the L’Eau Serge Lutens – an “anti-perfume” that is made to smell like fresh laundry – just a few months ago, Serge Lutens looks set to break more norms with Vitriol D’Oeillet. This fragrance is concocted with carnation, a flower that’s associated with death in European culture. As if the choice of ingredient is not taboo enough, the fragrance has also been described as “angry”, with hints of spices in its notes. Serge Lutens Vitriol D’Oeillet retails at S$162, available from end September onwards.
Penhaligon Eau Sans Pareil and Esprit du Roi
First launched in 2009 with four fragrances, the popular Penhaligon’s Anthology Collection is finally completed with a lush woody citrus Esprit du Roi, created by Bertrand Duchaufour, and Eau Sans Pareil, created by Beverley Bayne. The former features scents such as fresh tomato leaf, mint and raspberry leaf, contrasted with warm woods and potent masks; the latter opens with a giddy rush of sparkling fruits and sensual white flowers, and later soften into sweet woods, oakmoss and musks. Both retail at S$290 and are available from October onwards.
Escentials is located at Tangs Orchard and Paragon.
