This year, Santa Claus really came to town. And yes, there really is a Santa Claus. Canada’s low cost carrier WestJet gave its unsuspecting travellers a real-time holiday surprise this year.
We watched the WestJet Christmas Miracle video and thought to ourselves “why weren’t we on this flight?” WestJet’s Digital Command Centre and the team of more than 150 WestJetters became Santa’s helpers, delivering personalised gifts to guests arriving in Calgary.
Nineteen hidden cameras captured guests at Toronto and Hamilton International Airports confiding their Christmas wishes with a virtual Santa Claus while waiting to board their flights to Calgary. These guests were surprised upon arrival when the baggage carousel churned out presents before their suitcases arrived.
WestJet’s second annual holiday video, The WestJet Christmas Miracle was released on 9 December 2013 and has attracted over 32,450,000 views to date.
WestJet flies to 88 destinations in North America, Central America, the Caribbean and Europe. It has more than 9,600 employees across Canada and operates a fleet of more than 100 Boeing 737NG and Bombardier Q400 Next Gen aircraft. It also launched WestJet Encore, a new regional airline this year.
