Robinsons The Heeren has become my safe haven from the hustle and bustle of Orchard Road. Situated just a traffic light away from Somerset MRT, it houses Gyoza-ya, Luke’s Oyster Bar and Chop Shop for casual bites or a dinner date. Now, it joins my list of cafe-hopping destinations with their new additions: Laurent’s Cafe by Laurent Bernard and Marks & Spencer Food Hall.
Laurent’s Cafe by Laurent Bernard
Taking over Costa Coffee’s little corner is a simple yet homely chocolate haven created by famed chocolatier, Chef Laurent Bernard. There is a small booth over at Takashimaya B2, but there has never been a place for chocolate lovers to take a seat and fully savour his chocolate creations with matching teas before this.
Hardly a surprise to many, the staff offers their Chocolate Tart (S$9.40) as their must try. Of course, those wanting to switch from the richness of his chocolates can give the strawberry-and-champagne Ruby cake (S$10.35) a try as well.
Savoury options are also available. Brunch lovers can head over for the Farmers Breakfast (S$23) or the Crispy Duck Leg confit (S$26). And, it is not all just stuffing our faces over at the cafe as well. The company makes it a point to support small producers and artisans and chooses quality and natural products such as organic eggs, traditional “cold smoked” Norwegian salmon and marinated olives and anchovies from Provence.
Marks & Spencer Food Hall
Who loves shopping at Marks & Spencer’s food section? I do. I have an entire cupboard of their animal milk biscuits and percy pig noses ready for movie nights. (Yes, I am aware how kid-like my snack choices are, but they are delicious and I stand by them.)
They continue to expand their popular in-store bakery, packed with freshly baked breads, pastries, scones and cookies, alongside their usual food products. Hip hip hurray for more percy pig noses!
This store will also see the first coffee-to-go station, offering their house blend coffee (S$4.90) and Hot Latte (S$4.90) that’s perfect for workaholics to pack a nice breakfast to start the day right.
Or, for me, a good way to recharge before the battlefield of their latest fashion offerings.
Robinsons The Herren is located at 260 Orchard Road, 238855. Check out our previous post on their new heritage and John Lewis Home and Living Collections.
