Marimekko, the Finnish fashion and design company renowned for its original prints and colours since 1951, opens its first flagship store in Singapore at level two of Capitol Piazza. Inspired by the Nordic landscape, the store is 240sqm and was designed by a team of Marimekko interior designers in Helsinki. Natural materials set in neutral background tones were used to provide a cosy atmosphere.
We are most familiar with the brand because of Finnair’s association with the brand in its aircraft livery as well as cabin products. Read about the Finnair Marimekko Unikko aircraft livery here.
Marimekko has over the past three years opened up in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan while doubling the number of stores in Asia. Marimekko first entered into the Southeast Asian namely Singapore and Bangkok space in Spring this year with the intention to open more in the next few years. In Singapore, the Marimekko shop-in-shop opened in November 2014 at Tangs department store while the Bangkok store opened in Central World.
The Marimekko shop-in-shop has since been closed and consolidated to the new flagship store.
Marimekko is represented by Sidefame (Singapore) Pte Ltd.
We visited the store earlier this week while we were exploring the new Capitol Piazza ahead of its official opening on 16 June 2015. Check out some of the merchandise.
