Luxottica has recently unveiled their newest Fall Winter 2015 shades collection, including luxury brands Burberry, Prada and New York-based Oliver Peoples. Whether you are grabbing a coffee on the way to work or planning a beach holiday, we have picked 10 gorgeous sunnies for the ladies to stay glamorous no matter the occasion.
Dolce & Gabbana
While the list is no way in order, I could not help placing these babies on the top.
Inspired by the Spanish peineta (combs) used by flamenco dancers to keep their mantillas in place, these Spain in Sicily sunglasses sport the same gorgeous tortoise shell and intricate carvings. The Blonde Havana with brandy-coloured tinted lenses stood out for me as it looked almost golden under the sunlight. Just like Carmen Amaya (hailed as Queen of the Gypsies for her dance), it breathes an air of confidence, passion and sensual femininity.
Coach
Vintage glamour gets a modern take with COACH’s choice of an exaggerated cat-eye in coloured crystal fronts. I adore the elegant nod to its beginnings with the signature spray motif inspired by the original Coach signature C – with a touch of Swarovski sparkle.
Each colour combination is pop/cool combination of: black and blue with grey lenses, Tokyo tortoise and pink with khaki lenses, crystal white with grey lenses and pink/black and black with brown lenses (as seen).
MIU MIU
Sure to stand out from the crowd, I cannot get over how adorable the popping colours and distinctive cut-off rim-less shades from Miu Miu Wink collection are. It is available either as a sophisticated cat eye or square harmoniously balanced by linear-shaped ultra-lightweight metallic temples.
Giorgio Armani
Even though I am no Johnny Depp, I get to own a piece of island paradise with Giorgio Armani’s SAND. The colour palette takes inspiration from the stretches of golden sand bathed in the sun – gold, and contrasting temples of black and beige. What I love most is the frameless butterfly-shaped gradient lenses, which gave it an air of vintage Hollywood with a touch of modernity.
Prada
The iconic Minimal Baroque silhouette continues to win hearts of countless fashionistas with its new, luxurious wooden re-make. Exquisitely made from two types of precious natural woods; Black Walnut and Malabar Ebony, it features thick wooden contours contrasted with romantic Baroque-styled acetate curls in different shades of Tortoise.
Tiffany & Co.
Perfect for the executive on-the-go, the beloved aviator gets the Tiffany & Co. treatment with a sleek pale gold/silver metal frame getting a subtle spark of glamour with Austrian crystals and contrasting iridescent sides.
Tory Burch
Tory Burch’s ever-popular aviator gets a new flat-metal frame and a geometric T design on its temples in contrasting white and gold. There are colours available, but this version is my pick. Why? The white/gold combination screams luxurious elegance, while keeping with the tomboy-ish chic appeal signature to the brand.
Another from Tory Burch is a group of vibrant shades featuring a retro round metal frame, with a colour-blocking braided detailing on the arms. It is available in black, red, ivory and, my choice of blue. That contrast of yellow/white with the strong blue adds a nice pop of colour whenever and wherever – love it!
Olivers Peoples
Sunglasses were huge during the 1960s, and that was when we saw the boom of cat-eyes and thick plastic frames in an assortment of vibrant colours to match their colourful box-shaped PVC dresses. Oliver Peoples took those popular silhouettes and gave it an update with a thinner, almost golden frame. What’s most stunning about it is the matching “lens in lens” concept, where one of which is a mirror inside a gradient. Whether you are practical yet chic OL or a free-spirited bohemian, this would be the perfect.
Burberry
Last but not least is the luxurious Burberry Gabardine collection donned by British fashion royalties, Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell. The exquisite 18K gold metal drape, referencing the brand’s iconic fabric, on the sides makes for a beautiful contrast against the acetate frames of tortoise shell (as seen), gradient dark honey and natural horn in either oversized round, butterfly or cat-eye (as seen).
About the Writer
Jessica is a young lady of many obsessions. She gets herself into everything ranging from the latest in the monochrome fashion world (she only wears black, and sometimes, white) to convincing the masses that Community is the best TV series ever made.
Currently, she enjoys looking like Sailor Mercury had a baby with Wednesday Addams.
