Singapore’s very own couturier Frederick Lee took to the stage with his 29-ensemble Spring/Summer 2014 collection at FIDe Fashion Week 2013. More than 800 people attended his “all-black” collection show. Emily Hwang, socialite and owner of the newly-opened MCM Singapore at Marina Bay Sands opened the show.
Frederick’s collection was about darkness and despair – “Death & Destruction” and featured different permutations of black – tonal blacks, texture-on-texture blacks, shimmering blacks, matte blacks, et al. He mixed luxurious materials of fox tails and leathers with silks and satins, embroidered and crystallised delicate fabrics like tulles and organzas. Lee also added dramatic feathers, some of which are hand-painted and some delicately stitched. Lee was costume designer for the Singapore National Day Parades 2008, 2009 and 2011, and also director of costumes for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the inaugural Youth Olympic Games Singapore 2011.
Our photographer, Shirly Hamra was at the show to capture the amazing collection.
