It was a sunny morning on 18 October 2013 and also a milestone for Royal Brunei Airlines, the national flag carrier of Brunei Darussalam. Royal Brunei Airlines’ first Boeing 787 Dreamliner made its inaugural flight from Brunei to Singapore Changi Airport arriving at 1131am. The shiny new aircraft in white with a tinge of yellow livery with aircraft registration number V8-DLA carried VIPs including Yang Berhomat Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdullah, Minister of Communications of Brunei Darussalam and Mr Dermot Mannion, Deputy Chairman of Royal Brunei Airlines as well as media from Brunei.
Royal Brunei Airlines Dreamliner is powered by Rolls Royce Trent 1000 engines and is part of the airline’s investment programme. The first Dreamliner will fly around the region until 1 December 2013 when it will fly to London via Dubai. Royal Brunei Airlines hopes to extend Dreamliner service to daily flights to Melbourne for the second quarter of 2014.
The 787 Dreamliner offers a smoother ride by reducing turbulence and noise for a better cabin experience. Royal Brunei Airlines has configured its Dreamliner with 254 seats with 18 in Business class and 236 in Economy class.
Business Class features ‘Contour’ Seats with a seat pitch of 79 inches and reclines to a flat bed (77 inches including Ottoman) and at 15.4 inch touchscreen LCD monitor with Panasonic eX2 in-flight entertainment system.
Economy class features pleasant blue Weber 5751 seats with an average seat pitch of 32 inches with semi articulating recline and adjustable headrest. Economy class seats are in a 3-4-3 configuration. Each seat comes with an Eco 9 inch personal touch screen inflight entertainment monitor. All seats on board the Dreamliner are equipped with USB ports and passengers get noise cancelling headsets.
