11 March 2013, Singapore – Marshal recruitment for the 2013 Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix starts today till 31 March 2013 11.59am. There are 150 positions available in key trackside functions, including observers, track marshals, flag marshals and fire marshals. The number of hours of training required varies by the area of responsibility with a minimum of up to 32 hours of training.
For first time officials, theory and practical training of approximately seven days will be conducted over weekends starting in May 2013. There will be hands-on training including performing recovery and extrication exercises on a Formula BMW open-wheeler and a Subaru WRX.
Senior officials will receive specialist hands-on training in fire safety and track recovery, as well as attachment opportunities overseas. This year 36 senior officials have been selected to travel to Australia for the 2013 Clipsal 500 Adelaide and the 2013 FORMULA 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix as well as Malaysia for the 2013 Formula 1 Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix to gain practical trackside experience.
To apply for the volunteer marshal positions, you need to be 18 and above as at 1 January this year, physically fit, fluent in written and spoken English, commit to all scheduled training sessions and be available to participate in all three days of the race from 20 to 22 September 2013.
