27 February 2013, Singapore – Aberdeen Asset Management signs three-year agreement with the organiser of Extreme Sailing Series, OC Sport with the support of Singapore Sports Council. Singapore will be part of the Extreme Sailing Series circuit from 2013 to 2015. A first-ever Singapore team entry in the series on 11-14 April 2013 will be formed comprising 22 year old aspiring Olympic Laser sailor Scott Glen Sydney, 27 year old Asian Games keelboat match racing gold medalist Justin Wong and three other international team members which are to be confirmed shortly to mentor the Singapore boys who may not be experienced enough.
Team Aberdeen Singapore will be part of the invitational team in the Act 2 of the Extreme Sailing series where they will be given the opportunity to compete with some of the world’s best sailors such as Olympic and world champions Roman Hagara and Hans Peter Steinacher, defending Extreme Sailing Series champion and British Olympian Leigh McMillan and twice winner of the America’s cup Ernesto Bertarelli on home waters.
The Extreme Sailing Series will feature at least eight international teams competing in identical Extreme 40s catamarans in the Marina Reservoir as part of an eight-Act global tour spanning Middle East, Asia, Europe and South America. The event is open to public free-of-charge and there will also be activities for the family, music entertainment, food and beverage stalls and other on-water activities such as the Neil Pryde Windsurfing Racing Series, Optimist and Moth Sailing.
