26 September 2012, Singapore – LinkedIn shared today fun statistics about office equipment and trends that are soon to be extinct. LinkedIn surveyed over 7,000 of its members around the world and asked which office tools and trends will most likely not be seen by 2017 with tape recorders, fax machines and rolodexes top on the list.
Closer to home, some 384 Singaporean professionals were surveyed and the top 10 items that will become rare or disappear in the next five years include:
- Tape recorders
- Fax machines
- Standard working hours
- Rolodex
- Desktop computers
- Desk phones
- Formal business attire such as suits, ties, pantyhose etc
- Corner office for managers/executives
- USB thumb drives
- Cubicles
Professionals around the world expect tablets (55%), cloud storage (54%), flexible working hours (52%) and smartphones (52%) to be more common in the work place. Professionals in Singapore felt that cloud storage (59%) was more important than tablets (55%) as the office tool set to rule the workplace here.
