7 January 2012, Madrid – From 23 January to 5 February 2012, Madrid will be hosting the third edition of Gastrofestival 2012, a festival of gastronomic and cultural activities.  Almost 300 participants will be expected and there will be six tasty options to the gastrofestival menu: Sensory Experiences, Gastroculture, Madrid-A Gastronomic Capital, Gastrofashion, Gastrohealth and Wine Culture.

This festival coincides with a major international gastronomic summit, Madrid Fusión, to be held from 24 to 26 January.

Gastrohealth and Wine Culture

The first time viticulture will be featured in the event and will be one of its main themes.  As part of Wine Culture, there will be tasting sessions, routes illustrating the culture of wine and specialised courses on Spanish varietals.

Another new section, Gastrohealth, will let you indulge in beauty treatments with chocolate, cherries or oil, as well as spa circuits at attractive discounts.  You can also take a course in healthy cooking with instruction on the basic principles for designing healthy menus.  Understand the types of food that helps you feel well.

Tasting sessions and gastronomic tours of the city are available.  Lovers of tapas should take part in the activities organised by the San Miguel Market and the new San Antón Market.

Make sure you explore the seven appertising proposals offered by the city’s leading culinary suppliers and establishments as part of Madrid – A Gastronomic Capital.   Enjoy attractive discounts at gourmet shops, homeware stores and cookery schools.  Enjoy a tapa and drink for 3 euros at bars and taverns or the special 25-euro and 40-euro menus to introduce diners to their cuisine,  specialties and new dishes.

One of the main attractions would have to be “Dinner with the Stars”.  Sample dishes by leading international chefs who are taking part in the Madrid Fusión at fine establishments for just 75 euros.

Gastroculture lets you enjoy the city’s paintings, film, theatre and literature.  Twenty something of the city’s art galleries will host special exhibitions, talks and workshops included the Cerralbo Museum, National Museum of Roamnticism, the Lázaro Galdiano Museum, the National Museum of Anthropology, and the San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts.

Children can also participate in a guided tour at the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum and end with a tapa specially designed for the occasion.

The new film season all about food will be screened by the Spanish Film Library and plays with a culinary theme will be put up by Microteatro Por Dinero.  There will be a talk on the book “Curiosidades gastronómicas de Madrid”, published recently by José María Escudero Ramos.

Inspiration for Fashion

Gastrofashion will feature gastronomic themes in the window displays of the city’s fashion shops and boutiques.
